Gamecocks transfers get their numbers at South Carolina

South Carolina updated its spring roster over the weekend with a number of major pieces for the 2023 squad. All nine transfers the Gamecocks signed during the first transfer portal window that closed on Jan. 18 have been added to the roster.

Gamecocks have also removed freshmen Monteque Rhames, Cameron Upshaw, and Anthony Rose from the roster following an incident earlier this month. All three players had previously been suspended from the team. All three players had previously been suspended from the team.

Rhames, a four-star 2023 defensive end who moved to campus in January, was arrested on charges of “carrying weapons on school property” and obstructing justice, according to Richland County online court records. An incident report provided by South Carolina showed campus police responded to a “housing complaint” at the 650 Lincoln dorms at 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 25.
