What a game what a win today over 8th-ranked Clemson.

South Carolina pulled off another upset this season, defeating No. 8 Clemson 31-30 on Saturday. That was the team’s first win against the Tigers since 2013. Here’s what was good, bad, and ugly for South Carolina.

THE GOOD

Antwane Wells continues hot streak:
Antwane Wells finished with his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season against Clemson. He caught two touchdowns on Saturday, one being a fourth-down conversion in the RedZone and the other coming from a deep route, good for 72 yards. Wells finished with eight receptions for 126 yards, including a game-clinching first-down conversion.

Limiting DJ Uiagalelei: South Carolina made Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei inefficient in the passing game. He entered the game completing 65% of his passes, but he was only 8-29 on Saturday. The Gamecocks gave up a 59-yard completion in the first half, but they mostly kept the Tiger's offense from dominating through the air.

Second-half defense: Gamecocks
allowed 23 points in the first half but made life difficult on the Tigers in the second. The team forced six punts including three three-and-outs and one interception in the final 30 minutes of the game. The defense was aided by punts from Kai Kroeger that pinned the Tigers deep into South Carolina territory. Kroeger finished with five punts inside the 20.

MarShawn Lloyd returns: Though he wasn’t as effective as he’d been in previous weeks, MarShawn Lloyd was back in the lineup for South Carolina on Saturday. Lloyd missed the previous three games due to a quad injury. His health could aid the Gamecocks if he were to play in the team’s bowl game this season.

THE BAD

Rattler’s interceptions: South Carolina fell into an early hole after a pick-six from Rattler. Jeremiah Trotter jumped in front of a pass and ran it in for six points on USC’s second drive of the game. That was Rattler’s first pick-six of the season. He threw another interception in the second quarter in the red zone, shortly after the team gained 65 yards on a 4th down pass play.

Early safety:
The deficit grew on South Carolina after the team was called for safety. Rattler was called for intentional grounding while trying to get the ball out of the end zone. It made it difficult for the Gamecocks to come back or tie the game with the extra two points widening the gap. The team got its first lead of the game after a Mitch Jeter field goal made the score 31-30.

UGLY

Josh Vann’s injury:
After catching a pass on the Clemson sideline, senior wide receiver Josh Vann sustained a brutal lower body injury. He was helped off the field by his teammates as the wide receivers gathered around him. Vann made a pair of big catches for the Gamecocks before going down.
