South Carolina’s bowl projections are on an upward trend after an upset win over Tennessee

Saturday’s seventh win of the year Came over Tennessee now many national projections have South Carolina Gamecocks heading to a Florida bowl. The TaxSlayer Gator Bowl is a popular prediction for South Carolina this week.

Brett McMurphy of Action Network placed the Gamecocks there against Notre Dame. The Gator Bowl will take place on Friday, Dec. 30 in Jacksonville. It kicks off at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN. Richard Johnson of Sports Illustrated also placed the Gamecocks in the Gator Bowl, with Illinois as the opponent. Brad Crawford of 247Sports matched South Carolina up in the Gator Bowl with the Florida State Seminoles.

Kyle Bonagura of ESPN, like McMurphy, had USC playing the Fighting Irish in the Gator Bowl. Jerry Palm of CBS Sports kept the Gamecocks in Florida but had them in the ReliaQuest Bowl with Iowa as the opponent. The ReliaQuest Bowl formerly the Outback Bowl takes place after New Year’s on Monday, Jan. 2, and will be played at noon on ESPN2.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach also placed the Gamecocks and the Hawkeyes in that Tampa game.

College Football Network forecasts South Carolina to be on the earlier side of the bowl game schedule. It projected a cross-country trip for the Gamecocks and placed them in the Las Vegas Bowl against Utah on Saturday, Dec. 17. That game will start at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.

This will be the second bowl game appearance for head coach Shane Beamer in as many seasons. South Carolina has one more regular-season game to go an intra-state showdown against long-time rival and No. 9 Clemson.
