In preparation for this weekend’s road trip to Florida, South Carolina football plays Tom Petty songs during practice to simulate the crowd noise the Gamecocks will face at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Petty, a rock-and-roll icon and native of Gainesville, is as synonymous with Florida football as Tim Tebow. So, as his team readies for this Saturday’s SEC East matchup, Shane Beamer is hoping that his team will be “runnin’ down a dream” in “The Swamp”.

On Tuesday, the Gamecocks’ head coach met with the media to preview the 43rd renewal of South Carolina and Florida. The Gators lead the all-time series 29-10-3, which includes a 16-2 advantage in Gainesville. However, the two teams have split the last twelve matchups, with Carolina posting a 40-17 win in Columbia last season. That was the most points USC had scored against Florida in the series and its largest margin of victory. Kickoff is set for 4 pm on the SEC Network.

INJURY REPORT

The status of star RB MarShawn Lloyd who suffered a “pretty significant bruise” to his thigh that limited him in the loss to Missouri and then kept him out of the Vanderbilt game. Here's an update on Tuesday. “MarShawn was limited today but told me he felt a lot better than he thought he was going to feel,” Beamer said during his regular Tuesday press conference.

On Tuesday, also Beamer did confirm that Spaulding will definitely miss the final four games of the year. “Spaulding is done for the year,” he said. “I know I mentioned that (possibility) Saturday in Nashville.

Walk-on safety B.J. Gibson had an MRI on his hamstring on Monday, according to Beamer, after exiting the Vanderbilt game early. “Results are back, I’d say he’s day-to-day,” Beamer said. “Nothing long-term, just kind of see how quickly he can respond to treatment. He wasn’t able to do much in practice.”

The Gamecocks had some players leave the game in Nashville but guys like Nick Emmanwori and DQ Smith were able to return to action on Saturday night and Beamer doesn’t believe there were any serious injuries in the game.
