Gamecocks returned to the practice field for its fifth workout of the spring season on Thursday, and afterward, two of the position coaches were given the opportunity to share their experiences. Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray and wide receivers coach Justin Stepp met with the media to update the first week or so of spring ball.

Stepp was queried about the mindset of Antwane “Juice” Wells heading into this spring after leading the Gamecocks in receiving yards (928) and receiving touchdowns (6) a year ago. Stepp quickly stated that Gamecock fans should not be concerned about Wells, stating that he is “pretty self-motivated” and “remembers where he came from” after transferring from former FCS powerhouse James Madison prior to last season.

Meanwhile, Gray is searching this spring to find replacements for Cam Smith and Darius Rush, who combined for three interceptions, twelve pass breakups, and sixty-five tackles last year, and are now preparing for the upcoming NFL draft.
