South Carolina’s Jaheim Bell headed to the transfer portal
Dec. 06, 2022

One of South Carolina’s most dynamic playmakers is heading for the door. Tight end Jaheim Bell announced on Monday night via Twitter that he intends to enter the transfer portal. “I have always dreamed to be a collegiate athlete and playing at the highest level of college football,” Bell wrote. “The University of South Carolina gave me that opportunity. Thank you to Coach (Shane) Beamer, the trainers, and the entire coaching staff for always believing in me.

Bell came to South Carolina as a three-star recruit in the class of 2020 but evolved into an athletic dynamo who lined up at multiple positions across the Gamecocks' offense.

Bell became more of a focal point for the Gamecock's offense down the stretch in 2022. He received at least 11 touches between receptions and rushes over the final four games. The biggest game of Bell’s South Carolina career came in the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Bowl, where he caught five passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns as South Carolina beat North Carolina 38-21 to finish the season 7-6. “It’s very frustrating going through the week knowing you’re going to get the ball and it doesn’t happen,” he said in the week following the Missouri game. “It’s kind of frustrating, but I kind of tried to let that go after Sunday and Monday and try to come in and build on it and be positive and prepare like a pro.”

Bell should have a long list of suitors once he hits the portal given his ability to play multiple positions. He was originally committed to Florida before flipping to South Carolina and coming out of high school. Heading into the season, Pro Football Focus even projected Bell as a possible first-round NFL Draft pick this cycle. South Carolina is now slated to lose its top three tight ends from this past year with Bell and Stogner both leaving via the transfer portal and Nate Adkins out of eligibility

I don't think this is a huge deal. Bell is a playmaker, but not a make or break loss.

We need to pick up this transfer kid from Maryland, and sign Cameron Perfater from Greenville High, and we will be good.

Tend to agree with you. (y)

Shane said in his last presser that the bowl game is like an extra spring practice or game.

Somebody else will get the chance to audition for next season in the bowl game.

We just need to figure out the OC stuff and go from there.

Part of the process these days. Hate to lose him and wish him luck. Thanks for being a Gamecock. Next man up.

I hope whichever school ends up at has a position for his mother also.
She’s going to give whoever his new coach an earful.

He was peddling merch that morning, entering the portal that afternoon. Not sure his production was worth the possible drama.

we're losing some versatility and potential big play ability but at the same time we have the talent and playmakers to move forward. when youre looking at ascend like we are as a program one guy wont make or break you. strictly going into the bowl game kenion has a great opportunity.

my guess is bell's family know his future isnt at rb and with nil they told him to enter the portal now and basically start a bidding war for his services as well as find a place that will showcase him. if he plays in the bowl hes risking injury as well as being weeks behind on finding his new destination. i wanted to see the gang back together one last time but if youve already made the decision to transfer then its for the best. he has the talent, we'll see where he ends up and how well he does.

I hope that is the case...he is a playmaker and you can never have too many
True dat, and if you want to test the waters……test’m. He’s a big boy in a grown ups world. I hope he and his family much success in the future. I think it’s a poor decision but it ain’t mine to make.

He's always been one of the more passionate ones closest to Shane in the locker room vids, so I was surprised when he hit the portal.

Do you think his mama might be driving this, too. The Satt effect, perhaps? LOL

Maybe he comes back after the OC decision. Who knows?

from what i gather its probably more his uncle than anything though his mom certainly is passionate. coming off the high of the last 2 weeks and an expanded role, though mostly at rb, and deciding to go into the portal before the bowl game imo isnt just testing the waters, hes gone for good. his family is convinced the grass is greener elsewhere.
