Coach Beamer Sunday Night Conference Call
Sept. 17, 2023

Coach Beamer Sunday night reviewed the game effort his Gamecocks displayed as 27.5-point underdogs to Georgia Saturday in Athens. Leading 14-3 at the half, the Gamecocks could not maintain their high level of play in the second half eventually falling to the top-ranked Bulldogs 24-14.

Beamer announced freshman offensive lineman Markee Anderson would miss the rest of the season for a knee issue requiring surgery. Beamer said it’s not a major problem but has bothered Anderson since August and has not healed correctly.

Beamer, as he said after the game, reiterated that he won’t have an update on the health status of receiver Juice Wells until Tuesday. Wells left the game with a foot injury right after scoring the Gamecocks’ first touchdown in the opening quarter.

The Gamecocks will host Mississippi State on Saturday night. They are 4.5-point favorites.

I watched the entire Jags/Chiefs game yesterday.

Lawrence has finally gotten settled in under Doug Pederson and he's pretty good, but the Jags really didn't have a running game, either.

The Jags were 1st and goal at the one and elected to send TL one some type of bootleg to the left side, where he got stopped at the six. So they had to pass and the receivers caught the ball but didn't get both feet in. I don't know why they didn't just run Etienne on the first play.

Then the last series inside the red zone, the receiver was open but Lawrence put it high and nowhere near the receiver.

Then Travis Kelce victimized the Jags' secondary like Brock Bowers did to us Saturday. A winnable game for the Jags just like ours was for us, but they couldn't make it happen.
