Gamecocks football commit Dante Reno picked for a prestigious quarterback competition
May 237, 2023

Dante Reno will get a chance to go against some of the nation’s best quarterbacks next month. The South Carolina Class of 2024 commit has been selected for the Elite 11 finals, the organization announced Friday. The event will be June 14-16 in Los Angeles and is for Class of 2024 quarterback prospects. The quarterbacks will participate in on-field drills, routes on-air, classroom instruction, and off-field development. The Elite 11 will be named at the conclusion of finals.

Some of the other invites include Georgia commit Dylan Raiola and Michigan commit Jadyn Davis, who plays at Providence Day School in Charlotte. Reno is the first Gamecock quarterback prospect picked for the event since Luke Doty in 2019. Current Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler was the MVP of the event in 2018. Excluding Rattler, who started his career at Oklahoma, Reno will become the sixth Elite 11 quarterback in Gamecock history. He’ll join Doty, Ryan Hilinski (2018), Brandon McIlwain (2015), Stephen Garcia (2006), and Blake Mitchell (2002). Other notable past MVPs include Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, Southern Cal’s Caleb Williams, Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Georgia’s Matthew Stafford, and Southern Cal’s Mark Sanchez.
Reno was the MVP of the Under Armour Next Camp earlier this month and has been selected to play in the Under Armour All-Star game. Reno committed to Gamecocks last July and has been one of the most active and vocal commits in the Class of 2024 as far as recruiting future Gamecock players. The Gamecocks’ 10-player class currently ranks No. 4 in the SEC and No. 10 nationally. 247Sports ranks Reno as a four-star recruit and the No. 23 quarterback in the country for the Class of 2024. He had a big junior season at Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut and will attend Cheshire Academy in Massachusetts this season. The switching of schools will allow Reno to graduate earlier and enroll at the University of South Carolina in January 2024, as opposed to the summer of 2024.
