So I posted on CT about the boat crash just outside of Parris Island that claimed the life of a young lady named Mallory Beach a few years ago. For those that missed it, here is the story on that:

https://www.islandpacket.com/news/local/article240444896.html

TLDR: Rich kid named Paul Murdaugh and his friends were underage drinking and riding a boat way too fast through some of the coastal waterways in Beaufort. Paul crashed the boat into a pylon, causing multiple injuries and the death of Mallory Beach. As a side note, there was a gay teen named Stephen Smith who was killed in 2015 by what police called a "hit and run". People who knew the kid, including the boy's mother, will tell you that Paul beat the boy to death and left him in the middle of the road due to something going on between him and one of the Murdaugh boys. (Maybe Paul himself, I don't know.)

Anyways this Paul Murdaugh kid is the youngest son to a family of very powerful attorneys in Hampton County. Through some questionable legal practices, the family has made an outright fortune handling suits against CSX as well as other large companies, and of course members of that family have served as solicitor for this district thus giving them some substantial influence over the criminal courts as well.

Paul Murdaugh was indicted on three felony BUI charges in 2019 from that boating accident. He never had a mugshot taken, never was processed through the jail, and was released to return to college at USC while he awaited trial.

Anyways all has been quiet on that story since then. The Beach family has some pending civil suits, and the depositions from the other teens in the boat were released in the summer of 2020, but not much else has happened.

Well low and behold a few days ago, I go posting on Reddit in the County Deletions topic about Hampton's decline over the last 40 years or so, and I made a point to bring up the Murdaugh shenanigans. For most, it was their first time reading about it. It was enough to spark a lot of conversation and put Hampton County over the top for deletion in that game.

And then I get to work this morning to find this in my Reddit inbox:

https://www.fitsnews.com/2021/06/08/murdaugh-slayings-victims-were-killed-execution-style-police-sources-say/

Paul and his mother were found last night shot to death by multiple gunshot wounds from both a shotgun and an assault rifle in an "execution style" double homicide.

Now I wonder if somebody saw what I put on Reddit and decided to go all vigilante on these people last night.

I don't think this was a reaction to your Reddit posting, but I do think when the details do come out it will show that this was not some quick reaction type of killing.  Someone would have had to know where they were staying as they were not at home.  Unless some random criminals wandered up on them and decided to kill them, it appears that this was pre-meditated and planned out.

I agree. The timing is coincidental, but it does seem planned out and methodical. Honestly, my first thought after reading the articles was that someone in the family did it.

A new development. Alex Murdaugh, the father/husband is now a "person of interest".

https://www.fitsnews.com/2021/06/09/law-enforcement-sources-alex-murdaugh-person-of-interest-in-south-carolina-double-homicide-investigation/

From that article:

Still, sources familiar with the inquiry told me late Tuesday that there are “credible concerns” related to the timeline of the shootings. They are also probing what one source described as “possible manipulation of the crime scene” – although, again, they declined to provide any details regarding that facet of the inquiry.

One cryptic detail was provided …

“In our current age, technology makes it very difficult for people to hide their movements,” a law enforcement source familiar with the inquiry told me.

I didn't know you were from Hampton. I actually spent a little time there and thought it was a lovely little town. This story is crazy though. Its sure to end up on Dateline soon :)
I would go with all of the above.  My mom used to watch those crime news magazine shows all the time and I occasionally watched them with her on some of my visits.

Many of the cases on the shows looked like home invasion murders committed by strangers, but they were actually premeditated murders by family members.  There was a similar case in the Greenville-Spartanburg area some years ago that ended up being a couple murdered by one of their children.

One of the links also said that mediation for the financial settlement with the girl's family had collapsed last year.  That would mean an impending trial that might shed some light on the cold case of the earlier murder of the young man as well.  A reaction to an upcoming trial date is probably just coincidental with your postings about it if that had something to do with the timing of the crimes.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, Cocky0.

Definitely interesting. I can see a movie coming when this gets settled.
