Iran: US build-up of forces

Thousands of American citizens stranded in the region and can't get home because airspace is closed. Seems like there should have been a plan to evacuate American civilians from the region.

Yep. The first time a US sub has fired a torpedo in combat since WW2.

At least they work this time around. LOL
I'm sure you military geeks already know this. Even though the widespread use of the modern submarine warfare emerged during WW1, I find it fascinating that the first sub that sank an enemy warship was the confederate H.L. Hunley during the civil war near Charleston Harbor.

4. A U.S. Navy submarine sank an Iranian warship with a single Mk 48 torpedo in the Indian Ocean.

  • It's the first American torpedo attack to sink an enemy ship since World War II.
  • "This is an incredible demonstration of America's global reach," Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine said at the Pentagon briefing.
  • "To hunt, find and kill an out-of-area deployer is something that only the United States can do at this type of scale."

I think we're hoping Putin is paying attention to that last bullet point. This war seems in part about flexing our muscles with Russia to a certain degree.

You watch the video, the torpedo hit the ship, then a few seconds later, there was a huge explosion. I think they knew where the weapons magazine was on that ship and that is what they aimed for.

1 week in. Still haven’t heard a clear, coherent and consistent reason for starting the war. Still don’t know what our goal is, how do we get out, and if there is there a plan for what happens when we stop the bombing.

Seem to be making shit up as we go.

I thought it's been clear from the get go that we're NOT going to allow them to obtain a nuclear weapon.

As far as getting "out" that shouldn't be difficult since we're not really "in."

Reason has nothing to do with it. Justifications vary from Nukes, Israel, Raytheon, Lockheed, Oil, Epstein, flex for China and Russia. The rest is a need to know basis and as a taxpayer you don’t need to know.

Russia is providing targeting information to the Iranians so they can attack US & allied assets in the middle east.
In contrast, Ukraine is sending their anti-Shahed drone experts to the middle east to show the west how to defend against this confounding threat.

I wonder if certain US media outlets with their pro-Russia narratives are still complaining about how "corrupt" Ukraine is and how much $$ we've wasted by sending them munitions & supplies? And how many of those media outlets have even broadcasted the news about Russian assistance to Iran?

For all the "corruption" in Ukraine, they have emerged as the world's leader in anti-drone technology. We need them and we need their technology.

Generally speaking, I believe in a balance of power among sovereign nations.

Having said that, the thought of Israel with Iran's oil resources and Ukraine with a full military arsenal at its disposal makes me a little nervous at this point.

I really think we need to cut off both Israel and Ukraine sometime soon, particularly if Israel tries to turn Tehran into Gaza as far as killing innocent civilians goes.

I thought last June’s strikes set back their nuclear program by years. Which is it? They both can’t be true.

Citizens deserve an explanation. But if we haven’t gotten one at this point, we probably never will. I’ve heard a mishmash justifications from various people.

How can you ever conceive that happening with Russia pounding them daily with airstrikes?
Ukraine doesn't have the population to ever be considered peer-peer with larger/more powerful countries.
Take away Russia's nucs, and they aren't either.

I read from day one about eliminating their nuclear capability...IRAN has not lived up to their end of the bargain in terms of enriching materials to weapons grade...when it comes to nuclear arms you cant' exactly wait until the toothpaste is out of the tube (so to speak)...and that does not even begin to address the human rights atrocities (actual atrocities) that have been delivered at the hands of the previous Iranian administration...now whether that justifies going to war, I don't know...personally I think that an example is being made with Iran as a warning to China (and on a smaller scaler Russia) to avoid direct armed conflict with the United States...Iran doesn't really concern me to the high degree that China does

As I posted elsewhere, we were kinda backed into a corner with this.
When the CIA had intel on the gathering of Iranian leaders, the target was just too good to pass up, & so it began.

So much of this goes back 40+ yrs for the the US and bypasses conventional US domestic politics (Dems v. GOP).

The hair trigger for this was 10-7 (Hamas attack). It was sponsored by the Iranians, and it was not just against Israel, but it was supposed to disrupt other ME countries from seeking normalized relations with Isreal. The Saudis are a big player in this.

We've had troops in N Iraq/Syria fighting ISIS for years. These groups are all sponsored by Iran. It is an endless war. And the Houthis in Yemen, who we had a shooting war with were attacking ships in the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden. Another well armed & intelligent military sponsored/supported by Iran.

And now, we see Iran basically declaring war on the rest of the middle east. which forces us to go after them hard. Unfortunately, we've drug our ME allies into this.

Iran did this to themselves. Their regime could have chosen to live in peace. They chose war & terror.

Actually I believe both can be true. They apparently started them back up again. Are you willing to gamble Israel's existence or even ours for that matter on how fast they may recover?

The people in charge in Iran are part of that Muslim crowd that believes it's their mission to "wash the world in blood" to set the stage for the return of the 12th Imam. When someone (Iran) states their intention is to destroy the great Satan and the little Satan I believe they should be taken at their word.

Hitler clearly stated what his intentions were and was largely ignored and somewhere between 60-80 million people lost their lives over it. IMO you need only to notice how little the rest of the countries in the Mid East are objecting to our actions to understand the need for this to happen.
