Portal talk

Looks like SC picked up another OL tonight, Dayne Arnett. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Arnett is a native of Grand Haven (Mich.), and was a 1st Team All-Conference performer for the Division II National Champion Ferris State Bulldogs. Arnett played tackle for the Bulldogs last year. He joins East Carolina transfer Emmanuel Poku, NC State transfer Jacarrius Peak, Purdue transfer Hank Purvis, and UCF transfer Carter Miller on the offensive line.

It appears that the Gamecocks will get Illinois transfer tackle Tomiwa Durojaiye for next season. Durojaiye was an All-Big Ten honorble mention this past years with 8 starts resulting in 16 tackles, 4.5 for a loss with 3 QB sacks, one forced fumble and 3 QB hurries.

5 ol, 2 wr, 1 rb, 2 dt, 1 cb, 1 k

so now i'm thinking edge, safety, te, rb
One position that you didn't have down, long snapper. We just signed the former long snapper from Western Carolina, Emmet Rhoades. SC needed to replace Cole Rasmussen who long snapped for us in 2025.

This is one of those positions that if your having a good year, the fans will never know your name.

3 more commits, collins brothers and seth smith veteran fcs tackle from northern arizona. de drew collins will be a rs soph, 3 sacks in a reserve role last year at arkansas st. dl kelby collins was very highly rated out of a high school, no.53 player in the nation according to 247sports. hasnt lived up to that hype his 3 years in college as he's jumped from de to dt. it may be a situation of finding the right fit and scheme. we'll see what our plan is for him.

2026 Transfer Portal signees:
7 OL counting the LS, 4 DL counting DE, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 DB, 1 K
2026 Recruiting Class:
3 OL, 4 DL, 3 WR, 4 DB, 1 QB
Total:
10 OL, 8 DL, 5 WR, 5 DB, 1 K, 1 QB

Players leaving in Portal:
10 OL, 3 DL, 3 WR, 1 TE, 3 DB, 1 QB, 1 K
Graduated:
1 OL, 4 DL, 4 DB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 RB, 1 K
Total:
11 OL, 7 DL, 5 WR, 7 DB, 2 K, 1 QB, 1 TE

Looking at what players we lost and what players we are gaining, we may be okay. 34 left 30 signed. Still to be determined how much these new signees will actually help here. With the brand-new coaches, all our players will be spending time training. Some of the transfers may be better suited for the new game plans.
4 more days left in the portal. How many more will we pick up?

i think we would take any rb if they think hes that good or brings something different to the table otherwise 5 should be fine. i'd like 1-2 tight ends hopefully one that is more of a downfield receiving target than hunt and/or a specialist blocking tight end. we ran some 6 ol sets last year and its something briles does as well but still you'd like to have some more options at te. 1-2 edges that would fit nicely opposite stewart would be ideal. someone may emerge who is already on the roster but i'd like a starting safety.

ol jatavius shivers entered the portal so i believe that makes the current count at ol 15. 6 returning, 6 portal, 3 freshmen. i think they would take 2-3 more because of potential injuries and/or redshirting at least 2 of the incoming freshmen.

ol ryan brubaker entered the portal. now makes it only 5 returning ol from last year's team. new mexico st te gavin harris is visiting. he would give us that receiving tight end who can stretch the field with yac ability like josh simon.

ot josiah thompson withdraws from portal. so we're back at 15 olinemen. db jalewis solomon reportedly was going to enter the portal, but then it was confirmed hes decided to stay. we're in the final 3 for pittsburgh ot jackson brown.

edge desmond umeozulu entered the portal. tennessee edge caleb herring commits to sc. caleb initially signed as a very highly rated yet very slim around 200 lb edge that got up to a listed 245 last year and had 4.5 sacks and 6 tfl in a reserve role after not having much impact his first two years. gives us another explosive guy off the edge who you'd expect to breakout.

the tight end i mentioned earlier gavin harris committed to ga tech. i cant remember if hes visiting but i think we're pushing for texas rb christian clark. he didnt get many carries during the season but ran for over 100 yards in their bowl game. he wouldnt break the bank and he'd be a guy who could battle for the starting job.

Still noise about Smith trying to get out of Syracuse deal?
The current noise is that Syracuse may now be willing to let him off the hook with his commitment. I understand there still is some paperwork issues that needs to be done, and it isn't a done deal yet, but looking pretty good. Only real time constraint is that last day for drop/add for both schools is the 20th.

From what I've read, Umeozulu entered the portal after Herring committed, so probably figured that would cut into his playing time for his senior season.

Clark was here yesterday, with Herring, on a visit. Both were seated next to Coach Beamer at the the ladies game last night. Pretty cool, that a women's sport is considered a good tool for football recruiting.

Just saw a notice that Clark has committed to SC today. That will give us 6 scholarship backs for the RB room.

i havent read the story but i saw there was an update on the big spur this morning that seemingly was leaning toward him being able to return. gamecockcentral is reporting that desmond umeozulu signed an nil contract prior to entering the portal and we're going to enforce the buyout but let him leave. apparently michael smith didnt sign an nil deal but whatever paperwork they werent releasing him from that allows him to rejoin our team, but hes apparently already back in columbia enrolled in classes and waiting to rejoin the team if hes released.

syracuse did just sign a tight end so they may be more willing to back off and let him go especially with him coming back here and his intentions now clear. thanks for the clark info, he was here with beamer at the womens bball game along with herring and someone else. gives us a solid rb room. while it doesnt necessarily mean anything in this age of free agency we've made up for our lack of rb recruiting. howell and augustave are rs juniors, fuller, clark, and williams-dixon are rs sophs, and coleman a rs frosh.
