QUICKLY: Year three of the Shane Beamer Era at South Carolina gets underway with the start of spring drills on Tuesday, March 14. The Gamecocks are scheduled to practice 15 times during the spring. The team will generally practice on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday for five-straight weeks, culminating with the annual Garnet & Black Spring Game on Saturday, April 15. Please refer to the schedule below. All dates are subject to change.
WE’RE TALKING’ ABOUT PRACTICE: Most practices will be held at the football practice fields, located at the west end of Gamecock Park adjacent to the Long Family Football Operations Center, or in the Jerri and Steve Spurrier indoor practice facility. All practices are scheduled for mornings, generally in the 9 o’clock hour. See the attached schedule for specific start times.
SNEAK PEEK: Regularly-credentialed members of the media will have an opportunity to watch the first several periods of practice on Tuesday, March 14 (periods 1-6), Thursday, March 23 (1-6), Thursday, March 30 (1-6), Tuesday, April 4 (1-6), Tuesday, April 11 (1-5) and Friday, April 14 (1-5). No live streaming will be allowed during this time. Media will be asked to stay on the south end of the practice fields, near the indoor facility.
THE HEAD COACH SPEAKS: Head coach Shane Beamer will hold a press conference on each Tuesday during spring drills, beginning March 14 and continuing through April 11. The press conference will take place in the defensive team/media room, located on the second floor of the Long Family Football Operations Center beginning at 12:30 pm. Coach Beamer’s press conferences will be streamed live on the official website of South Carolina Athletics, GamecocksOnline.com.
COORDINATING THE COORDINATORS: Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, defensive coordinator Clayton White and special teams coordinator Pete Lembo will meet with the media on Wednesday, March 15, and again on Thursday, April 13.
THURSDAYS WITH POSITION COACHES: The remaining seven position coaches will each be made available to the media once during spring ball. Wide receivers coach Justin Stepp and defensive backs coach Torrian Gray will be available on Thursday, March 23. Offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley, defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey and tight ends coach Jody Wright will be available on Thursday, March 30. Running backs coach Montario Hardesty and outside linebackers/defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas are scheduled for Thursday, April 6. The three opportunities are set to begin at noon.
WHAT ABOUT THE PLAYERS?: Offensive players will be available to meet with the media on Monday, March 20, Monday, March 27, Monday, April 3, and Monday, April 10. Defensive players will be available on Wednesday, March 22, Wednesday, March 29, Wednesday, April 5, and Wednesday, April 12. Times are TBD, but are expected to begin around the noon hour, depending on when the media room is available following meetings.
PUBLIC VIEWING: All spring practices are closed to the general public with the exception of the Garnet & Black Spring Game.
THE SPRING GAME: The annual Garnet & Black Spring Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 15. Game time is set for 7 pm ET at Williams-Brice Stadium. Admission to the game is free.
BIG GAMECOCK WEEKEND: “Big Gamecock Weekend is set for April 14-16. It kicks off on Friday, April 14, when the Carolina softball team opens its series vs. Texas A&M at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. They will also host the Aggies on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The Gamecock beach volleyball team will host four matches as part of the Palmetto Invitational, with two matches on Friday at 11 am and 5:30 pm, and two on Saturday at 1 pm and 5 pm. In addition to the annual Garnet & Black Spring Football Game, highlights of the weekend include the Cocky Trot 5K & Fun Run, a pre-game concert by Gamecock alum Patrick Davis & His Midnight Choir and guests in Gamecock Village, and a post-game fireworks and light show at Williams-Brice Stadium.
PRO TIMING DAY: South Carolina will hold its annual Pro Timing Day on Monday, March 13. The event will begin in the weight room at the football ops facility beginning at approximately noon before moving to the Jerri and Steve Spurrier indoor practice facility. Media will be able to observe the on-field portion of the workout. Selected players will be made available to the media as their schedule permits. Pro Day is closed to the general public.
CAROLINA CALLS: Todd Ellis will host “Carolina Calls with Shane Beamer” on Thursday, April 13. The hour-long show airs live from Backstreets Grill, located at 2400 Devine Street in Columbia, on the flagship station of the Gamecocks, WNKT-FM (107.5) and over the internet at GamecocksOnline.com, beginning at 6 pm.
