Starting to look like this whole post was started because you want to bash on Trump. I thought that from that start and you just keep confirming It. Just can’t help yourself blinded by hate.
Absolutely correct. Boca Bobby is a real case of TDS just like Bill Ackman.
We are heading for a self-induced, economic nuclear winter,” Absolute TDS.
The only other comparable moment in modern history when a "president" crashed his own economy on purpose I can think of is about 10 years ago in India when Modi announced his demonetization effort. Absolute TDS.

People cry about the tariffs, but they totally overlook the fact that these are RETALIATION.
These countries have been raping the United States for decades and they just felt that was okay to keep doing. Well now President Trump says, we will just tariff them 1/2 as much as they tariff us. I think he is doing them a big favor. I think he should have made it exactly what they charge us.
And look, already over 50 countries wanting to negotiate.
Glad the corporate world is waking up now. DOW futures are looking like at least 600-point increase today. As Trump keeps making these other countries quit screwing us, prices for their products will not change much, and our companies will start making way more on our exports.
Our Autoworkers and steel mills are already loving the wakeup call. Billions already being invested here by foreign companies because we are finally charging them tariffs like they have charged us for years.
If there is a recession, it will only be because of people like Boca with the TDS. Trump is doing a great job already.
Instead of crying and trying to fabricate all these problems, sit back and watch all the great stuff he gets done. Yes, some prices may go up for a short term, but then it will all get way better. Trump knows how to make things happen.

Ackman was very vocal about his support for Trump, 3 months later and he has a derangement against him?

Get your head out of your ass

He and most Americans don’t like to see the president crash the economy, go figure

So to keep it off politics. Should we match the tariffs other countries charge us? If not do you think it is ok that they charge a higher tariff on our goods than we do on theirs?

These tariffs are NOT based on "what other countries charge us." It is a calculation they used based on the trade deficit, period.

a good example is Vietnam. Vietnam charges a 10% tariff. Trump's announcement was a whopping 46% to business coming from that market

Stocks have already risen 1400 pts this morning.
I guess I got my head up my ass for buying more stock first thing this morning.
Ackman fell to the same crazy beliefs as so many others; "Trump is going to kill our economy!" You keep believing that while I make more money myself.

Don't look like the economy is crashing today. Like I stated this morning, they are finally realizing what Trump did with the tariffs is great for our country.
We finally got a President that was tired of seeing us get screwed by everyone else. He wants free trade but with only 1/2 retaliation, he is still letting them keep some profit on US products while we actually start to make some money off their products.

And if China still wants to act stupid, go ahead. Their own stock market is crashing today.
Will it cost Americans more to get our products imported from other places? Yes, it will. But China already had 65% tariffs on American products. When Trump wanted 34% of that back, they decided to add 34% more. They also ban numerous American products from being sold there. Totally unfair trade practices.
We may have to pay a little more at the store, but China is going to break. Trump is going to go up another 50%. Billions in lost sales for China and Billions in extra income for us. I think we can afford a little more at the store or cut back some on our spending until China gets right like almost every other country is doing.

Fair enough. That is what some reporting is saying, I really don’t know for sure hard to know exactly what to believe. If others are charging more than we are should we match it?

Who is reporting that? They are incorrectly reporting it

your question is not valid because these tariffs are not based on what other countries are charging and would require some knowledge/information about what they are charging. It likely varies widely based on industry or products of course.

These tariffs are based on the trade deficit, which is truly absurd

Your information is wrong. These tariffs were based on what they charge us NOT TRADE DEFICITS. You must read too many lies trying to make Trump sound bad.

See the chart President Trump had when he announced the new tariffs. Vietnam charges 90%. For most countries it was all based of 50% of tariffs charged to the U.S.A. It was all RECIPROCAL TARIFFS. It had nothing to do with trade deficits.

no, that's dead wrong. And Vietnam doesn't charge a 90% tariff, how absurd!

It is based on a calculation they used from the trade deficits. The trump administration has admitted to that fact, and they are using the word "reciprocal" liberally. Educate yourself young man

To calculate the tariffs it decided to impose on countries around the world, the White House used a formula that focused on trade deficits and total exports. The formula didn’t include an assessment of tariff rates for specific products in individual countries, or take into account other trade barriers that weren’t tariffs.

Instead, the reciprocal tariff rate applied to each country was: their trade deficit divided by exports to the U.S., divided by two. "

Anyone who thinks prices will not increase due to all this...... At work this past week I have already received several e-mails from some of our regular suppliers, indicating surcharges going into effect due to the new tariffs. It's happening folks.

For the record you spoke too soon as the market crashed again today

Do you believe other countries are fair to us in reference to tariffs?

Chuck Grassley and 7 other Republican senators are introducing and endorsing a new bill that takes away the tariff powers from the President.

Nice to see some people from that side of the aisle working to reign in this mess. We are a nation with 3 branches of government anyway

IMO opinion the big one here is obviously China. Other countries are already reaching out wanting to negotiate, but I think this whole thing is to get better terms with China who has taken advantage of us for far too long and even the democrats are on record saying so for over a decade. We need manufacturing capacity back in our country. China controls our medicine and many other essentials right now. They are not our friends and could cut off supply of critical items that are necessary for our survival. If we continue to kick that can down the road we are heading toward self-destruction or destruction at the hand of China. Problem is that many in our government and large corporations are getting rich by selling out our future generations to that very adversary. Over the last 30 years China's GDP is outpacing the U.S. by a long shot. Our appetite for cheap goods is selling out our country and I have more interest in my kids and future grandkids lives than what my retirement is doing in a 2-week window.

We can talk about that if we have a recession.

We shouldn't. Thinking about the consequences should be talked about before starting a trade war like this.

besides at this point a recession is far more likely than what you outlined in your post. JP Morgan analysts predicted a 60% chance of a recession. I think the chances are far less that we are all going to be sewing Nikes in factories here in the US for minimum wage.

(not sure I want that future for my kids/grandkids anyway)

Blame the "leaders"(both parties) of our country that for years let this happen and have now put is in a situation where we can be held hostage by a communists regime. Freaking our about Russia, while China is doing far worse, just not in military fashion. I don't know that the tariffs are the right thing, but I do know someone needed to do something and it looks like someone not beholden to them monetarily at least has the cojones to try. I could give a crap about the slave labor to make Nike. There are much larger problems looming if we stay the course. The Chinese understand that we are spoiled and short term thinkers and have used that to their advantage time and again.

these tariffs, especially now when we are dealing with inflation already, are not the answer you are looking for
