Tanner screwed up huge when he let Muschamp's agents negotiate the $20M buyout. All leverage is lost and the responsibility lies on Rays head.
Does Caslen have the brass to bring in a new AD?

Looked like no one except ASU had any energy last night. We just seemed to be going thru the motions, heads down, slumped shoulders. I too, was willing to give the staff time but man this was not very good. Minnesota had a great offense plan maybe for an OC we should look at him.

The $20 million buyout was a huge mistake. Yes, it would be expected he’d have a buyout, but not that much.
People keep clamoring for a new HBC, but they have to be careful what they wish for. Make another hire that doesn’t pan out, you’re looking at a lost decade followed by another 5 years hoping the next guy gets it done.
Fedora, Chip Kelly, Strong, Fuente, Richt (at Miami), Chad Morris, etc, etc...guys who were thought to be great hires have either been fired or have restless fan bases who think they can do better. FSU is staring at a possible debacle, who are they going to hire? They’re thinking and hoping Big Game Bob still has some gas left in the tank, if it’s true that’s who they’re zeroing in on.
Muschamp truly inherited a disaster here. His biggest issue seems to be hiring coordinators, BMac in particular just hasn’t been able to get it done. But to balance that, we only have one WR who can consistently create separation. The other guys either struggle getting open and/or drop too many passes. And the OL has struggled under Wolf.
To get a very good OC it’ll likely take a two year contract at least to get someone to make the move. But after hiring whoever we can get, we DESPERATELY need athletes, multiple guys who are a threat to take it to the house every time they touch the ball. Watch Bama, LSU, Clemson, etc....their skill guys just completely out talent our guys.
I’ll get bashed for saying this but I think Muschamp can win here. Our defense has improved steadily and is actually pretty good so that side of the ball is fine and should continue to get better as long as Champ is here. I like his recruiting and I like the kinds of kids he’s bringing into the program and I like the way he runs his program.
IMO all he needs is an offensive coordinator and yet for whatever reason he has failed miserably here and at Florida to find one. This is the point where Tanner has to step in and say “find a BIG TIME coordinator or you won’t be coaching here anymore. “ I think if he would hire a proven commodity he could make it. And frankly that’s about the only way he could save his job at this point.

It's time to redo Muschamp's contract and make it performance based. Next year's salary is based on this season's record. $400k for each win over a BCS team and $200k for wins over all other opponents. $50k for each loss against a BCS team and subtract $100k for each loss against all other opponents. This salary should start in 2020 making next years HC salary $1.65m to $2.35m depending on the outcome of the last 2 games. Use the savings to hire a top shelf OC and bump the DC salary up to match.
If this was in place before the game last night, I bet the outcome would have been different and Muschamp would have coached a way to win.

That's ridiculous. So the reason to not fire a coach, is the fear that the next guy might be just as bad?

I’ll give you this though, I wasn’t sure if the offensive woes were personnel or coaching. After watching us run into 7 and 8 man fronts all night with no attempt to throw over the top, the answer for me is pretty clear.
Man I was so reluctant to come out on this, but after last night just adding in everything he has had his time to prove otherwise. Yes blame the injury issues. Truth tell all, that is a problem he has owned at Florida and here. He is a lame duck now as well. Would take a miracle. Point to make, he would need to beat A&M and Clemson.
I thought about that as well. but the keeping him option outcome overall to me would include the same outcome now. Losing to App. St. should get you fired at most other schools going into your 5th year it would. look at Arkansas Gone Florida St. etc. Longer this drags out the longer it will take to get back.

Subtract the seniors from this team and look at next year's schedule. Ugh.
What I don't get is this myth about Champ being a great recruiter. Does he work harder than the last staff (especially near the end), absolutely. Does he have more passion and fire? Yes. But name one player he has recruited that has made it to campus that can match up with: Lattimore, Clowney, Gilmore, Alshon, Melvin Ingram, etc... It just ain't happening.

1. Does the program show signs of trending up or trending down? IMO....there is no question we are trending in the wrong direction.
2. Would ANY other Power 5 school want to hire Muschamp as their head coach? If the answer is NO...and it is... then why in the world should WE have him?
Those two very simple questions tell me all that we REALLY need to know about what to do with Muschamp.

Do we know that for sure? That might be a myth as well...most of the recruiting is done by asst. coaches.
And consider the quality of players....it could be said the previous staff's last players were better recruits than the current.
