I completely agree. The only exception I can think of was Jason Kidd WAAAAY back in the day. He, of course, had some vets around him, but not (at least that I can remember) that alpha around him.
I was remembering Brenton Williams from Frank Martin’s first years with USC. Brenton was no GG...
Hard to “find a way to win” when you have only three players who can generate offense/defense. That’s two short of a full squad, @kingofnerf. And when one goes down or fouls out early (I’m looking at you Hayden Brown), well… Simple math.
Just for some historical perspective, in Frank Martin’s year 1, we had some blowout losses as well (though not 40+ point losses). 75-36 vs. UF; 77-55 vs. UK; 64-46 vs. LSU; 90-68 vs. Mizzou at home. There were a large handful of games in the 11-12 point loss range as well.
Give Lamont the...
I think what is lost on most people is that Coach Paris lost a key cog in his newly minted Gamecock men’s BB machine PRIOR TO the start of the season.
Ebrima Dibba was to have been a complement to Meechie Johnson and give us another solid scoring option. He was one of the two most intriguing...
I’ve got your answer for you…

GG, Meechie...
Was the Emoni Bates show tonight at the CLA. Good guys win, but the Eastern Michigan Sophomore was the human highlight reel, with eight 3 pointers, 36 total points, 6 rebounds (2nd in his team), and the ability to shoot from anywhere on the floor.
64-74 final. Gamecock Freshmen played well in...
Voices? I’m not the one who started arguing. I simply defended the point I made in my 1st post that YOU questioned… that Chico and Wright are serviceable, but not SEC quality guys. So if that’s hearing voices, then I guess I’m hearing voices. (Why do you have to make all of your posts in...
Yes, serviceable. Did you notice that a guy who is a guard has taken 11 total FTs (making 6)? If that is the kind of aggression you want from an SEC-level PG, then we have very different ideas about what an SEC guard needs to be doing. Lamont Paris has said it himself… this team is not doing...
The Gray thing is a Coach Paris issue… he wants BB-V to be the guy, but Gray is the better player right now. He’s just not getting the floor time or his #’s would be better.
As to the rest of our issues, it’s simple… we have ONE truly talented player (GG), ONE decent PG (Meechie), and ONE...
Well, the good news is that we have a STELLAR player in GG Jackson. As long as the health is kind to us and we can keep Meechie on the court, we have a solid PG. IMO, at that point, it's a question of how well Hayden Brown has developed at that point. Brown reminds me of a Michael...
No, I don't disagree with that at all. I hope I didn't imply such (coaching issues) in my prior comments. It's not a matter of coaching, it's a matter of lots of difficult circumstances and the "learning curve" you describe.
One other side note... I think it's interesting how Ford Cooper has suddenly become a name who is in the mix for time on the floor. Ford has actually shown some good value to the team, even as a walk-on. Can spell several different players on the team when they need it, and though he doesn't...
Unfortunately, I have to agree. AK will have his boys ready for us, and it seems that Lamont Paris is JUST figuring out how he wants to narrow his bench for the season.
There’s some raw talent on the team. Coach Paris will have to work hard to get his guys to play better defense if our record is going to end at .500 or better on the year.
Three biggest issues as I see it are: 1.) Getting the Freshmen (other than GG) to play at the faster pace of college and...
Two things have to happen:
1.) Play better defense (which is set up by good offense).
2.) Tell GG to stay on the blocks and forget being outside the arc for now. Davidson can’t handle his skills and he could score at will if he can catch the ball down low.
Here is my quote from the thread about this matchup a few days back…
“If the good guys can hang with Colorado State, it will show a lot about how we will continue to play in OOC as well as against some tough SEC competition. Watch this game closely, as it will also tell us whether we will be...
I'm, personally, excited to see how we perform against Colorado State. Niko Medved is no slouch as a coach... he gets recruits and gets results, always by year 3 at any program he's been a part of. Year one at Drake (his only year there), he was 17-17 - A HUGE jump that exceeded all...
