Just read ANY of my posts all season long. I’ve been calling for a coaching change for our staff (not change with Frank) with regard to the bigs since our out of conference schedule. The SEC schedule just exacerbated the issue. It’s CLEARLY the coaching. Just fundamentals that none of them...
The key in this all will be G.G. Jackson. If Frank is able to snag him, then he saves his job simply because of that. UofSC's athletic department is not going to let a top national recruit walk away from a LOI in order to get rid of a coach. That's free publicity and gives some hope for the...
Okay….
@GMB2USC23, anyone who is around this forum long enough knows that I LOVE Gamecock men’s hoops. And I love detailing X’s and O’s, strengths and weaknesses, and opponents pros and cons. It’s the coaching side of the game that gets me geeked up, because of the little details which I pay...
Here’s the thing… I’m no longer ok with Frank (only as of this year, as you may recall) because of what I described. We are getting out-recruited, our coached, and most importantly out-played. And the reason for that is there is a severe lack of coaching of our bigs (not for lack of talent…...
Shaka Smart was one of the coaches I was really high on, and was on my “short list, when Frank was hired here. A then “up and coming” coach who was proving he could coach at a high level. He’s had some bumps along the way, but I still respect the heck out of the man. He does things the right way.
@kingofnerf Remember what I said about Swiss cheese? THAT was a clinic in ‘Bama exploiting our weaknesses and playing to their strengths. No one wanted to believe me when I said that Bama had the tools to beat us like a drum. A 21 point loss sounds a lot like a drum to me. Sure, we had a...
I'm with you on the reasons that some players have not had their best seasons so far (though most are coming along nicely now). The one, though, that you DIDN'T mention is Wildens Leveque. That one has been a head scratcher for me, and again... just not happy with the overall play at that...
And therein lies the perpetual problem with this program... we win a few games in a row, or beat a top-10 opponent, and then we start to read our own press clippings. How about this... we take this one game at a time. First up is 'Bama. That's going to be a TOUGH matchup for us. I don't like...
To my perpective, only one of our remaining 5 is a game we should truly win - vs. Mizzou.
Auburn looks unbeatable right now, and we don't.
LSU is a head scratcher, could go either way, but their talent matches ours pretty well.
I don't like the Ms. State matchups for us, based on the last...
@kingofnerf I like the positive nature of your outlook. Reality says that even if we ONLY lose to Ms. State and Auburn, we still finish at 9-9 in conference. I don't like the matchup against LSU, despite the fact that they've not been playing very well as of late. I'm also not a fan of the...
@GMB2USC23, I'm a bit confused with your comments...
You say "not one coach on the list recruits or coaches better than Coach Martin". I listed these names:
Wes Miller (Cincinatti),
Mike Boynton (OSU),
Bob Richey (Furman)
Luke Murray (Asst., UConn),
Ulric Maligi (Asst., Texas),
Jerrance...
Still a lot of time in this contest @Gary The key is getting the ball inside the paint and making some shots. If we can keep TN honest on D then we can go in a run to at least get things close again. We’ve been settling for the 3, instead of taking the good shot from close. I’ve not give up...
What I like about this contest so far is that statistically, everything is almost equal. They took two more shots than we did. They have hit more threes, but we’ve made more at the line than UT. We’re playing on ball defense REALLY well and not fouling as a result. That bodes well for us...
Looks like a VERY different MBB team today. The usual hard-nosed Defense, but rebounding VERY well on the defensive glass and getting the ball inside to set up the 3 OR taking good shots at the glass.
IMO, TN is too big and too fast of a team for our guys. Frank is going to want this to be a slog-fest… a fist fight, pushing their guys to shoot from outside using hard-nosed defense, and they’re going to punish us from the inside as a result. Lots of over the top lobs and back door cuts. I...
100% with you, @Homebrewcock. I still think Frank has some good years of coaching left in him... just not at USC. I know former players of his from both KS St. and from USC, and they all still speak of how he will go out of his way to assist them. The guy knows how to build "boys into men"...
If I remember correctly, there is no buyout clause on Frank's contract right now. I could be wrong on that, but when it was renegotiated last season, I seem to remember that it was basically a "perform or you're done" kind of deal.
