4 star WR Rico Powers 6'2" 181lbs, formerly of Savannah but now in Hapesville, GA was among the top targets for USC on hand Saturday for a camp. Powers said one of the reasons he changed schools was to get into an offensive scheme better suited for him. He caught 17 passes as a slot receiver last season but wants to play on the outside.

He used his time with the Gamecocks Saturday to learn more about those positions.

“BMac (receivers coach Bryan McClendon) was mentoring me on things, on how to perfect my routes better and catch the ball better,” Powers said. “I sat down with him and Coach Muschamp, and he they let me know that they want me. They think I’m a playmaker.”

Powers has visited USC before and coming off the camp stop the Gamecocks are in a good spot with him.

“I was always impressed with them,” he said. “That was my third time visiting. They are up there at the top.”

Powers said Georgia, Auburn, Nebraska, Oregon, NC State and Tennessee are others he’s strongly considering at this point. He has not set dates for his official visits but he said USC will get one.

He plans to make his decision before the season and he is hoping to graduate early.

Out of all his offers, I would think we have the better situation at QB with Ski and Doty. Not to mention we are going to be loaded at WR so no one will be able to key on him or any other WR or Slot.
