Gamecocks go outside, under lights for tip-off event

Gamecock 2019-20 basketball teams were introduced to fans like no previous rosters.
A half-court in the middle of downtown set the stage for Frank Martin and Dawn Staley’s squads. The “Gamecock Tip-Off” event, played out in front of over 1,000 spectators, included dunks, 3-pointers and random non-basketball competitions between the two teams.

South Carolina’s assistant athletic director for marketing and fan engagement. “Basically, it just kind of came together. Like, ‘Hey, let’s do this. Let’s try it out. Let’s see what it takes. Let’s see what kind of financial needs we need for it and what type of support we’ll get for it. And if it makes sense, let’s do it.’ “And it did make sense. And it’s something I think I see coming more of a tradition.”
