One of USC’s primary basketball targets for 2020, 6-7 Matt Cross of Beverly, MA, has three official visits scheduled, and he will begin his first one Thursday Indiana. Next weekend he will trip to USC and the weekend after that he will see Miami.

The Gamecocks have been persistent in their recruiting efforts with Cross. Since making an offer, Frank Martin and assistant coach Chuck Martin have had their in home visit and have followed Cross along the AAU circuit. And they remain in regular contact via the phone and social media.

“Just talking about how they see me in their program and telling me that they think I can come in and make an impact right away,” Cross said.  “Asking me about getting ready for the visit and doing our thing down there.  And just asking about my family.  They talk to my family a lot to get to know everyone including my siblings.”

The official visit Cross will make to USC won’t be his first visit to Columbia, He also was in for the Georgia game the end of last season. But the official nature of the visit will give him more time to look for deeply into the program beyond what he’s heard from Martin and Martin.

“Just to see what it’s all about and just to see how the whole coaching staff interact with each other,” he said.  “Just to see the vibe that it all has and just to see the atmosphere, what it’s all about down there.  Being able to feel out whether they are as interested as I am, which I think they are considering they are getting me down for an official visit.  And if their style fits my style and if I can come in and play in a year or two.  I think that’s the most important.”

Cross said he might take more official visits and is looking at Florida, Cincinnati and Iowa for those trips. But for now, he feels good about the three official visits he has set and said USC, Indiana and Miami stand as his top three at this point, with no leader.

Just a “heads up”... your headline says “Mart” Cross, instead of Matt.

I thought "Mart" was short for "Marty" or "Martin".

Can I call him Mart anyway?  :animated-jumping-smiley-image-small:
