QB Jason Brown (6-4 230) and WR EJ Jenkins (6-8 230), teammates at Saint Francis, PA received the news today from USC that they have been admitted to school, so both have officially committed to the Gamecocks. They will arrive on campus March 1st. The two are from Fredericksburg, VA and decided to transfer after Saint Francis cancelled a spring season. Their goal was to continue playing together, and the Gamecocks offered them that opportunity.

“It’s a blessing,” Brown said. “I’ve been playing with him since the seventh grade. We’re definitely ready to get to work and show Columbia what we can do. I think we can definitely show them that we can play. I know there’s a lot of doubt coming from the FCS level, but I know that we can show them that we can play with the ability that we have on the field. Definitely excited for it.”

In 2019, Brown led the NEC in passing and set a school record with 3084 yards and 28 touchdowns. He completed 62% of his attempts. He believes the new offense Marcus Satterfield plans to install at USC will fit him well.

“The type of offense that South Carolina runs is perfect,” Brown said.  “I think we could really fly up there.  I’m in the pocket but I can extend plays.   And when I extend plays, I’m always looking down field to throw the ball.  I’m not looking to run, but I can definitely run if I need to.  Running is not my first priority.  No matter if I’m in the pocket, standing still, or if I have to escape the pocket, I’m still looking to throw the ball no matter what.”

Jenkins was second team All-NEC in 2019 and set the school with 13 touchdown catches. He had 39 catches for 779 yards.

If Brown and Jenkins count with the Gamecocks’ 2021 class, that will increase the number of spots taken to 22 leaving room for three more additions.

I think he will be the starting QB, this guy has all the tools to succeed , just an little work needed

Really quiet on the recruiting front - which is amazing since this is the historic national Signing Day. The early Signing Day and the transfer portal have taken away most of the thunder.

The Post Courier in Charleston mentioned the two St. Francis transfers as potential impact players for next year, along with Marshawn Lynch, Jordan Burch and Georgia State transfer Jordan Strachan. They believe that Brown will compete with Doty for the starting job, and his long-time receiver Jenkins will catch a lot of passes, no matter who is throwing the ball.

Kornblut says that we are in good shape with two DBs out of Alabama, and both could sign today. The last time that we got two DBs from Alabama was 2006, when we landed Darian Stewart and Captain Munnerlyn. If the current recruits are half as good, I would be very happy getting both.
I like that Strachan is an edge rusher and that if you remove one letter it is Strahan.  That must be a good omen right?

I'd love to have a February surprise by the end of the day, as long as it's a pleasant one.  It has been remarkably quiet for the past several weeks on the recruiting side.
