‘Will the Gamecocks be contenders this year in the SEC’ someone thinks so

Nov. 17, 2019

The win margin is impressive but the teams Carolina has faced are not. There combined record of Carolina’s first three opponents is now 3-7 after Carolina rolled Cleveland State, 90-63, on Friday night at Colonial Life Arena. (VIEW ARTICLE)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed...we've yet to see a complete game from this team.  Right now they are just wearing teams down with their depth and putting them away in the second half.  I we can consistently get two halves of good basketball, we could be really good.

Need to get more consistency from Minaya, reduce the fouls and turnovers (charges), and definitely get Bryant back before the conference schedule, and we could see some good things overall....

This is our first 3-0 start since the 2016-17 Final Four run year.

Pretty or not, consistently winning means a lot in a Frank Martin system because it usually mean the team is on the same pages.

It's still one game at a time for me, but we're looking good so far.

UConn beat UF last night and Evansville upset UK the other week.

We just need to keep chuggin'.

Given that UF is 2-2, UK is 3-1 (with a loss to Evansville and a CLOSE one with Utah Valley last night), LSU is 2-1, and 'Bama is 1-2, the preseason "experts" don't really mean much right now.  As you note, we need to keep plugging along - one game at a time.

I said some months ago that we had a team which needed to gel before we would know what we have.  I still think it's going to take us AT LEAST 5-6 games before we see what Frank's starting 5 are really going to look like AND we won't know what we are capable of as a team until we've been tested by a good opponent.  Both of those things are coming up really fast...

Stay tuned folks.  I think we're in for good things for the season, and COULD be in the top 3 of the league again this year.
