Before last weekend’s win over Missouri Marcus Lattimore decided take off the cumbersome brace he was wearing to protect his surgically repaired knee. Since it has been almost a full year since Lattimore suffered a knee injury that cut short his sophomore season and he thought it was time to see how he would hold up without the brace.

“We talked to the trainers, talked to Dr. Guy, and, you know, talked to my coach,” Lattimore said after the Mizzou game. I’m around a year right now…well almost 11 months, so I thought I could go out there and take it off and see how it felt and it felt good.”

Lattimore finished with 145 yards of total offense and two touchdowns last week. He carried the ball 21 times for 87 yards, a four yard per carry average. He also led the team with seven receptions for 60 yards.

“I felt less restricted. That was the main thing. I got my knees up a little bit more and I’m really not thinking about it when I don’t have my brace on, so I really wasn’t thinking about my knee at all.

Lattimore can exorcise another demon Saturday at Kentucky. Two years ago at Commonwealth Stadium he went down with an ankle injury and the Gamecocks blew a big lead and suffered a stunning loss against the Wildcats. He should find plenty of room to run against this year’s Wildcat team, they are 13th in the SEC in rushing defense, allowing 191 yards per game.
