GAMECOCK NOTABLES

  • While tonight's game is the eighth between Stanford and South Carolina all-time, it is just the fifth in regular-season action. The two most recent meetings have been in the NCAA Final Four with the Gamecocks winning en route to the 2017 National Championship and the Cardinal claiming the win on the way to the 2021 National Championship.
  • With Stanford's rise to the No. 2 spot in Monday's AP Poll, tonight marks the sixth 1 vs. 2 game for the Gamecocks all-time and the second this season. South Carolina has been the No. 1 team in those matchups three times, including in this season's 73-57 win over then-No. 2 UConn (Nov. 22)

Gamecocks take the lead 50-49 with 1 minute and a half left to play in the 3rd.......

And the score remains 50-49 Gamecocks at the end of the 3rd quarter. They out-scored Stanford 22-7 in the 3rd......

The #1 Gamecocks beat Stanford 65-61! At one point in the 2nd half, Stanford had a 18-pt. lead that was mostly built in the 1st half, but the Gamecocks out-score Stanford 37-19 after halftime to pull ahead.

Aliyah Boston had 18 pts on 8-20 shooting with 11 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 4 steals. Destanni Henderson returns from her leg injury to start, and she responded in a huge way, with 17 pts on 8-13 shooting, with 7 assists and 7 steals.

This game was a nail-biter.......

We don't win this game with Henderson.

Littleton played great as well and was clutch at the FT line when it mattered most.  Glad to see it since she missed last year because of the bone spur stuff.

Sa-lute!

Great win.

This was the first women's game I have ever attended. Even my wife, who doesn't particularly like basketball, said it was an exciting game. Henderson was the spark we desperately needed in the 3rd quarter. CLA was electric when we started to mount the comeback.

There was a big debate in our section about the lane violation. 4 of us were discussing it and there were 4 different versions of what happened. The lady 2 seats down thought it was simultaneous, her husband said he thought the Stanford player stepped first, my wife said the violation should have been on Boston, and I thought the Stanford player kind of grabbed Boston and pulled her into the lane. Anybody that watched it on TV care to elaborate on what actually happened?

It was a typical shoulder to shoulder leaning contact prior to the shot, as players start jockeying for box out position and to not be boxed out.  The replay definitely showed that the Stanford player was in the lane first before Boston stepped in.  I think most of the conversation was whether Boston's lean had forced the Stanford player's violation.

Officials finally started calling the illegal screens on Stanford #3. May have been the difference.
