The Texas A&M Series

South Carolina is 7-4 against Texas A&M since the Aggies joined the SEC ahead of the 2012-13 season.  The Gamecocks won seven straight before Texas A&M claimed the most recent meeting – the 2020-21 season finale in College Station.

In that meeting on Feb. 28, 2021, the Aggie defense held the Gamecocks to just eight points in the third quarter. South Carolina rallied back in the fourth, but Texas A&M prevailed 65-57 to claim the 2021 SEC regular-season title.

South Carolina is 4-1 against Texas A&M in Colonial Life Arena. In the Aggies' last trip to Columbia, the Gamecock frontcourt of Aliyah Boston (13 pts/12 rebs) and Mikiah Herbert Harrigan (20 pts) dominated the offense in a 60-52 South Carolina victory on Mar. 1, 2020, to complete a perfect 16-0 SEC record.

Gamecocks clinging to a slim 26-24 lead at the half. The team not named Aliyah Boston has struggled to generate any offense. Boston is actually well on her way to a career night, with 15 pts on 6-11 shooting, and 10 rebounds for a double-double in only 14 minutes of play. But the rest of the team is a combined 4-24 from the field - Zia Cooke is having another frigid shooting night, at 0-9 from the field, and 0-5 from behind the arc. And yet the Gamecocks still hold the lead, so that is the good side. Hopefully the team comes out in a better offensive frame of mind for the 2nd half......

Gamecocks come out for the 3rd period much better offensively, and out-score the Aggies 21-10 to extend their lead to 47-34 through three quarters. The Gamecocks shot 7-15 (46.7%) from the field and 3-6 (50.0%) from behind the arc.....

Gamecocks win 65-45. Four Gamecocks score in double digits: Aliyah Boston led the way with 19 pts on 8-15 shooting, with 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. Destannie Henderson added 15 pts on 6-11 shooting plus 3-6 behind the arc, with 5 rebounds. Victaria Saxton added 10 pts on 3-4 shooting, with 5 rebounds, and Zia Cooke also scored 10 pts on 3-16 shooting, plus 3-10 behind the arc. Kamilla Cardoso chipped in with 8 pts on 3-4 shooting, with 6 boards, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.

Zia seems to be falling into this pattern of being red hot or ice cold.  Much better second half effort by the team.
