1 JUCO linebacker lands offer, sets official visit

LB Lakia Henry had only one offer coming out of high school, so he took it. And he’s making the most of it.
As a freshman at Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker had 110 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks and an interception.
Henry, who’s from Vidalia, Ga., now has offers from Alabama, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and South Carolina, among others.
The Gamecocks offered Henry on Monday during a call with coach Will Muschamp and linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler.
“I’d been talking to [Hutzler], but we went a few weeks without talking. He hit me back [Monday] and was like, give him a call. Once I called him, he offered me a scholarship,” Henry said.
Between the two coaches, Muschamp did most of the talking.
“He [said] I could come in and really help South Carolina. He said I would be a really big boost to the team,” Henry said.
The No. 2 junior college prospect in the country, according to 247Sports, admitted that he doesn’t know “that much” about South Carolina’s program.
“I know that it’s really close to home. I grew up watching them play a little bit,” he said.
South Carolina and Henry tentatively have set plans for an official visit the first week in June. The Gamecocks are set to host a few prospects that weekend, so that could also be in the cards for Henry, who hasn’t taken any college visits this year.
“I’m ready to meet the coaches,” he said. “I’m ready to check out the field and stadium, the jerseys and all that good stuff. It’s going to be my first time going to a big D-I school, so I’m excited.”
Henry plans to take three official visits in the summer and two more during the season. Texas, Texas A&M and Nebraska “will for sure” get him on campus.
There’s no definitive timeline for a decision, though a commitment could be made before the start of his sophomore season. He will decide before the end of the year because he’s set to graduate in December.
“I think the most [important factors] will be playing time and my relationship with the coaches,” Henry said.
