2013 Mr. Football in South Carolina Tramel Terry of Goose Creek announced Wednesday night he has been given a release from Georgia so that he can transfer. “Nothing but love and respect for the G,” is what Terry wrote on Twitter. Earlier in the evening, Georgia issued a statement announcing the transfer:

“I appreciate the opportunity provided by Georgia,” Terry said in the statement. “I have many friends there but believe I’ll have a better chance for playing time somewhere else.”

Georgia coach Mark Richt also issued a statement: “Playing time is important to every player and I understand the way he feels. We wish him nothing but success at his next school and will assist any way we can in the process.”

Wednesday night, Terry told SportsTalkSC that he’s not had contact from any schools yet because the word of his transfer has just gotten out. He said Georgia has given him a complete release to transfer anywhere and he will have three years to play two.

“Just focusing on making sure I’m in the best situation to do what I want,” Terry said. “I’m wide open but any school in South Carolina, I will definitely want to look at first.”

Terry committed to Georgia in March of 2012 after narrowing his list to the Bulldogs, USC, Clemson, Alabama and Notre Dame. He was a dynamic two way performer at Goose Creek as a defensive back and wide receiver.

But he tore his ACL on the opening kickoff of the 2012 Shrine Bowl and missed all of the 2013 season at Georgia. The Bulldogs recruited him to play receiver but apparently Terry did not regain his offensive form after the knee injury and was moved to the secondary where he was not able to move up the depth chart.

Last season he played in 10 games as a reserve registering 6 tackles and an interception. He played in 3 games this season and against USC last weekend he had 2 tackles and forced a fumble.
