South Carolina quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus landed four-star running back David Williams out of Imhotep Institute in 2013 and he's hoping to strike again in 2016 with four-star tight end Naseir Upshur.

The 6-foot-3, 231-pound Naseir Upshur, who stars for the Philadelphia, Pa.-based school, landed an offer from the Gamecocks in April and he visited the school for the first time earlier this week.

"Everything stood out to me, honestly. I was just in love when I got there," Upshur said. "It was a nice visit. I enjoyed myself. I got the chance to talk to Coach Spurrier. I was very excited to get to meet him. And I was with my friend David Williams. I was with Coach Mangus the whole time too."

Has a long-standing relationship with Williams who was quick to sell him on the Carolina program.

We're real tight. He's like a big brother," Upshur said. "He was just talking to me about if I want to play in the SEC and at the right school, then it would be the right choice for me. He said if I want to play early then it would be the right choice for me, because they're losing like two tight ends, so they're going to need tight ends to come in. He was just saying we could play together and make South Carolina the new pipeline from Philly."

also has built a bond with Mangus.

"He's a cool coach. I've known him for about two years now. I call him at least once or twice every two weeks, so we have a good relationship. He's just a cool guy. He tells you how he feels about you and how he thinks you're going to play on his team."

Upshur lists Penn State, Rutgers, Michigan State, Michigan, Alabama and Temple as programs he's visited the summer. He hopes to get back to South Carolina for a game this season, and will visit Arizona State this summer. He's already visited there once.

What's he looking for in a school?

"Just how comfortable I am. How comfortable I am with the coaches," Upshur said. "I want to go to a winning school, because when you go to a winning school, you know the coaches are going to be there. When you go to an other school, you know the coach can leave, but there's a good chance the coach is staying at a winning school. I just want to be comfortable and get a great education."

Upshur, who was once thought to be high on Arizona State and South Carolina, isn't naming any public leaders.

"I wouldn't say (I have any leaders), but I'm high on South Carolina," he said.
