2018 OL still eyeing Gamecocks & other notes

July 14, 2017

Still in mind

Three-star tackle Jerome Carvin (Cordova, Tenn.) told Phil Kornblut this week that he’s keeping an eye on South Carolina.

“I’m looking to take more visits in upcoming weeks,” Carvin said. “I’m going to try to get back up to South Carolina soon, Alabama, try to get to Michigan and Memphis probably will be ones I go to.”

All four, plus a dozen other schools, have offered Carvin, who’s ranked as the No. 30 tackle in the Class of 2018.

“They’re just checking on me to make sure I’m good,” Carvin said of the Gamecocks. “They are just telling me to keep them in mind and that I have a chance to play early there. I’m definitely interested. My cousin played for coach Muschamp and always said good things about him.”

Crystal Ball Eval

Prediction on the 247Sports Crystal Ball have been made for several South Carolina recruits.

Auburn

4-star WR Matthew Hill: Yep.
Georgia

4-star S Trey Dean: Two picks were made for the in-state Dawgs, which put an end to the Texas trend. While it’s tough to say which one wins out on July 31, South Carolina’s chances still don’t seem to be all that favorable.
Indiana

3-star S Israel Mukuamu: The run on picks for Florida State has ended. Just as was noted earlier the week, Mukuamu has a visit to South Carolina on the docket for next week. Ultimately, that could play a big factor in his decision on July 24.
North Carolina

4-star LB Dax Hollifield: Did he wear UNC gloves to The Opening in Charlotte? Yes. Did he recently visit for their showcase camp event? Sure. But his recruitment isn’t finished. Hollifield’s mind changes regularly, so to peg one school as the favorite, for now, is premature. But seven selections have been made for the Tar Heels since Wednesday night.
South Carolina

3-star ATH Bryce Thompson: Smart money is on South Carolina for the former Virginia Tech commitment.
