2018 TE talks Gamecocks, another 2017 addition, new 2019 offer out

April 19, 2017

2018 TE talks Gamecocks

Listed at 6-foot-7.5 and 225 pounds, 2018 prospect John FitzPatrick certainly looks the part of a Power 5 tight end. There’s a hitch that keeps schools from making a scholarship offer.

“A lot of schools say they want to see more film. We run the triple-option, so we don’t do much passing at all,” FitzPatrick said.

The South Carolina coaching staff believes it has seen enough from FitzPatrick, who attends The Marist School in Atlanta. The Gamecocks, led by tight ends coach Pat Washington, offered earlier this spring.

“Coach Washington texted me. I’d talked to coach Muschamp and him and they said they loved my tape,” FitzPatrick said. “They loved how I can go up and get the ball, so they’re really excited about me.”

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, FitzPatrick is the No. 53 tight end in the class of 2018.

“It’s going upwards, I know that,” he said of South Carolina. “Great coaching staff. Love the atmosphere there. I’m really looking at the international business program there.”

Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and Virginia Tech have also offered.

2019 CB lands offer

On Tuesday, Muschamp offered 2019 cornerback Jammie Robinson, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect from Crisp County High School in Cordele, Ga.

“(Muschamp) talked to me about the campus, the graduation rate and how much he liked watching my film,” Robinson said.

South Carolina will host Robinson for a visit on Saturday, April 29, along with a host of other notable recruits.

His only other offer is from Alabama.

Another 2017 addition

The Gamecocks picked up another preferred walk-on on Tuesday when outside linebacker/safety Cole Davis announced his decision to join the program.

Davis, who’s listed at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, had 51 tackles and 2 interceptions during his senior season at Bartram Trail High School in St. Johns, Fla.
