In spite of a 16-1-3 record, plus winning the SEC tournament, SC Gamecocks receive a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.  They are seeded behind Stanford, and three ACC teams (Florida State, Virginia and North Carolina).  SC will host Southern Conference champion winner, Samford (13-3-5) this Saturday at 6 pm.

Seems like a no brainer...FSU didn't make the finals of their conference tourney, much less win their conference tourney.  And had a worse record.

I understand the cred that UNC brings to the ACC, but I'm not sure how FSU benefits.  Based on season record and conference tourney results I think we got hosed, but honestly I don't think we are a top 4 team.  We have a really strong defense, and some good athletes, but almost no offense.  It seems the only time we can score is from set pieces and scrambles in front of the net.  This lack of scoring threat allows the opponents to just send numbers into our side of the field with little fear of the consequences.

No. 5 South Carolina (17-1-3, 7-0-3 SEC) defeated Samford (10-4-5, 7-1-1 SoCon) 3-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night. Samantha ChangLuciana Zullo and Riley Tanner all contributed goals helping Carolina advance to the second round for the fourth straight year.

The 2019 Division I women's soccer tournament continues next weekend from Nov. 22-24. The Gamecocks will host the second and third rounds with Xavier and Kansas already punching their tickets to Columbia. Notre Dame and Saint Louis will face one another on Sunday to determine the four institutions who will battle for a trip to the Elite Eight. https://gamecocksonline.com/news/2019/11/16/womens-soccer-gamecocks-handle-samford-in-ncaa-tournament-opener.aspx

Geez, Stanford laid it on Prairie View A&M 15-0....

And Central Connecticut St upset 4 seed Rutgers 1-0

Prairie view a&m plays in a very weak conference. It’s like whomever gets Dutch fork in the first round of the football playoffs

South Carolina defeats Notre Dame 1-0 tonight at Stone Stadium in the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament. The #2 Seed Gamecocks advance on to the 3rd Round - also known as the Sweet Sixteen for the Tournament - Sunday in Stone Stadium at 2:00 pm against 11th-ranked and #3 Seed Kansas. The Jayhawks beat 24th-ranked Xavier earlier today 3-0.

Also some more good news! Washington State defeated top seed Virginia tonight 3-2. This means that should the Gamecocks defeat Kansas Sunday, the 4th Round - the Elite Eight - will be held at our Stone Stadium (date and time not yet determined)!

Washington State now has to face West Virginia Sunday at 5:00 pm in their own Sweet Sixteen match. West Virginia defeated Central Connecticut State - the team mentioned above that beat #4 Seed Rutgers earlier - 1-0 in 2 overtimes earlier today. So beat Kansas, and it's either Washington State or West Virginia in Columbia...

Enjoyed the game last night. It's a good atmosphere to take a family to and it is relatively inexpensive too.  The team controlled the first half and kept the ball in the attacking third. Notre Dame controlled the second half, but USC has a great back line. Their defense wins games for them.

Yep...if this team ever gets its offense on track, they will be really good.

Gamecocks go to the 60th minute in a scoreless game with Kansas, but have scored twice since and lead 2-0 on goals by Grace Fisk (ast. by Lauren Chang) at 62:41, and by Riley Tanner (unassisted) at 75:39. Match is at 84:32.......

Was there again today. Kansas parents there. Kansas is a really good team. They are fast and aggressive. I don’t think the score reflected How close the match was.

Agree - South Carolina is such a defensive team, that the scores are typically going to be low and tight. In today's match, the total shots for each team were close - 13 to 10 in USC's favor - but USC doubled KU's shot on goal 8 to 4. The Gamecocks just had the odds in their favor....

 - An update on the Washington State - West Virginia match: Washington State holds onto a 1-0 lead at the halftime break......

Washington State defeats West Virginia 3-0, and will now come to Stone Stadium and a partisan Gamecock crowd in Columbia, SC for the 4th Round quarterfinal (Elite Eight) match against the South Carolina Gamecocks - time of match TBA at this point.....
