2019 prospects react to Outback Bowl win

January 03, 2018

In the eyes of anyone on the college football spectrum, a New Year’s Day bowl victory over one of the top programs in the country is a sign of progress for South Carolina. But there was more to the 26-19 Outback Bowl win over Michigan than just the result.

The Gamecocks erased a 16-point deficit with a 23-0 run to pick up win No. 9 in Year 2 of the Muschamp era. Not only can they ride that momentum into their own offseason, but it can also be parlayed on the recruiting trail.

Several recruits weighed in with their thoughts from the game on Monday:

Committed

• 4-star DE Rodricus Fitten (Atlanta)

“I was able to watch the end of the game and I was impressed on how they never gave up and stayed together to finish the game out strong.”

• 3-star OT Jaylen Nichols (Charlotte, N.C.)

“We watched the game, but [at the] beginning I was stressed because I didn’t know what was going on, but then we came around and came out on top.”

Offered

• 4-star DE Curtis Fann Jr. (Twin City, Ga.)

“It was a great win for the program, the players and the coaches.”

• 4-star OT Michael Tarquin (Belleview, Fla.)

“I thought it was awesome how they stayed in it and came back.”

• 4-star OT Warren McClendon (Brunswick, Ga.)

“They played hard the whole game.”

• 3-star RB Mikey Dukes (Charleston, S.C.)

“I thought it was a great comeback win.”

• 3-star ATH Aidan Robbins (Louisville, Ky.)

“I thought it was a great representation of the hard work and dedication that the program possesses, and what the coaches instill in the players’ minds in order to be successful.”

• RB Knowledge McDaniel (Bradenton, Fla.)

“I was there and it was intense.”

• LB Tra Wilkins (Lithonia, Ga.)

“Man, that was a great game.”
