ABOUT THIS GAME

  • Tonight's game is the third in which the Gamecocks have played Missouri as No. 1 in the AP Poll, including last season's matchup.
  • South Carolina is 7-3 all-time against Missouri, including a 6-3 mark in the Staley era, after winning the last three meetings.
  • South Carolina is looking for its 27th straight SEC regular-season victory tonight, which would move the Gamecocks into sole possession of the fifth-longest in league history. Tennessee holds the SEC record of 42 consecutive regular-season wins, which it did twice (Jan. 26, 1992 - Jan. 1, 1996; Feb. 7, 2002 - Feb. 6, 2005).
  • A win tonight would be the Gamecocks' 30th straight over an SEC opponent, including three in the 2020 SEC Tournament, marking the longest such streak in program history and the third-longest in league history. The longest streak in SEC history is 36 games by Tennessee (2010-2012). Of the Gamecocks' current 29 consecutive wins, 13 have came against a ranked foe.

The South Carolina Gamecocks defeat the Missouri Tigers 77-62 to improve to 16-2 and 11-0 in the SEC. Missouri falls to 7-8 and 3-7 in league play.

The win extends the Gamecocks’ overall league-win steak to 30 games, tying the program record for consecutive overall SEC wins – including SECT and NCAAT wins - that the Gamecocks set from 2015-2017. The SEC record is 36 wins held by Tennessee.

The win is also the 27th consecutive regular-season SEC win for the Gamecocks, breaking a tie they held with Mississippi State and claiming sole position for fifth-best such streak in SEC history: again, Tennessee holds this conference mark as well with 42 wins, a feat they accomplished twice.

In the game tonight, South Carolina continued their poor shooting they displayed in their previous game against Connecticut in the first half, shooting only 38% while Missouri – coming into tonight’s game leading the conference in field goal completion percentage despite having a 7-7 overall record, shot strongly completing 56% of their attempts, and the game was tied 36-36 at the half.

The Gamecocks however seemed to correct things and completed 59% of their attempts in the 2nd half, while holding the Tigers to just 27% after halftime, and pulled away out-scoring the Tigers 41-26. Zia Cooke led the way with 13 2nd half points and 15 pts overall, while Aliyah Boston scored 11 pts on just 5 field goal attempts, with 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Destanni Henderson also scored 11 pts with 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists with only one turnover. Victaria Saxton added 10 pts, 6 rebounds, a block and a steal.
