ABOUT THIS GAME

  • The Gamecocks are 6-3 against the Lady Vols over the last six seasons. South Carolina has won the last three meetings, all by double digits.
  • South Carolina is looking for its 29th straight SEC regular-season victory tonight, which is the fifth-longest streak in league history. Tennessee holds the SEC record of 42 consecutive regular-season wins, which it did twice (Jan. 26, 1992 - Jan. 1, 1996; Feb. 7, 2002 - Feb. 6, 2005).
  • A win tonight would be the Gamecocks' 32nd straight over an SEC opponent, including three in the 2020 SEC Tournament, which would give them sole possession of the second longest in league history. The longest streak in SEC history is 36 games by Tennessee (2010-2012). Of the Gamecocks' current 31 wins, 13 came against a ranked opponent.

A much better 2nd Period for the Gamecocks, as they out-score the Vols 21-9 and take the 37-25 lead into the halftime break. Destanni Henderson led the way with 10 points, while Aliyah Boston only has 5 pts - she only took 4 shot attempts - she has 10 rebounds and 1 block....

Tamari Key picks up her 3rd foul for Tennessee.....a big foul because she's their big shot-blocking girl for them who would defend Boston. She now has to sit the rest of the 3rd Period, I imagine.....

Gamecocks getting blasted by Tennessee now.....the still, same ole issue of the team being coached poorly by Dawn Staley and staff in proper fundamentals for laying up easy shots. Too many missed and muffed layups, and turnovers with poor defense. Cooke is taking too many shots, and not making any - too much of that stalls out any offense the team has watching one player keep hurling up bricks. Boston has picked up her 3rd foul but the 3rd period is almost over, so she could return soon.....

Gamecocks out-scored 28-17 by the Vols, and cling to a paper thin 54-53 lead after three quarters. It's anyone's game right now, but the Vols have all the momentum and should be feeling very good about themselves after that period, while USC is stumbling and stuttering.....

This South Carolina team is not a Final Four caliber team this season. The 2019 talent is not great talent. It will take the 2021 talent to raise this team up to national championship caliber level, but they will be anchored a bit by Staley's insistence on letting these girls today be the starters......

Game over....Zia Cooke's inability to make any shots of relevance and refusing to find ways to get the ball into the paint, ends our SEC streak. We'll most likely lose at Texas A$M as well. and at best are a Sweet Sixteen team this year. We once led this game by 16-18 pts. This was a Dawn Staley-coached special......she needs the talent to win the games for her so she can be a super coach, otherwise if it depends on her, we're toast.......

Agree, we were out played, out coached, and out hustled in the 2nd half.  UT on the other hand looked like they were doing their lay up drill practice.  Very disappointing 2nd half.
