ABOUT THIS GAME

  • Both teams will be wearing special face coverings for tonight's game as a show of support for Khadija Bowens, who played for Dawn Staley at Temple, as she battles ovarian cancer. For more on Khadija's journey, visit OwlSports.com to find the Nov. 10 story on her.
  • Tonight marks the fifth time Staley has squared off against the program at which she began her coaching career. She and the Gamecocks have won each of the previous four meetings.
  • This is the Gamecocks' last game before the holiday break; and Temple is the opponent in that game for the third time in the last four seasons. South Carolina has lost its final game before the break just once in the Staley era (85-93 vs. #9 North Carolina, 12/20/09).

Also Laeticia Amihere earned her first career start tonight, taking Victaria Saxton's spot. She has 11 pts midway through the 3rd Period. Lele Grissett - who missed the previous game with a head injury suffered during practice - is also back playing tonight....

Gamecocks return from their long final exam layoff to beat Temple 103-41 at Colonial Life Arena, and improve to 5-1 on the season. G Zia Cooke led the Gamecocks with 23 pts, all in the first 3 quarters, and added 4 assists and 3 rebounds. F Victaria Saxton came off the bench to score 16 pts on 7-9 shooting, and added 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. P Aliyah Boston added 14 pts, 9 boards, and 3 blocks. F Laeticia Amihere added 11 pts and 3 rebounds, and G Eniya Russell also scored 11 pts with 3 boards, and 2 steals. Altogether, the Gamecocks played a very efficient offense, shooting 36% from the 3 and 53% overall, with 22 assists and only 6 turnovers.

The Gamecocks now start their SEC conference schedule, but will take another two weeks off before hosting Mississippi on December 31st. The games are few and far between at this point in the season.....

Wow, it's tough to maintain any kind of continuity with those kind of breaks between games.  Definitely not a normal year.
