ABOUT THIS GAME

• The Gamecocks lead the series with Ole Miss 24-17, including a 14-2 mark in the Dawn Staley era. South Carolina has won the last 12 meetings between the teams.
• In honor of Black History Month, the Gamecocks will honor UofSC Asst. Dir. of the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs Dr. Carl Wells in the first half. In previous games, they have recognized Edith Cook, the first Black player in program history, South Carolina Exec. Assoc. AD/SWA/Chief Diversity Officer Maria Hickman and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin.

Coach Staley stated in her presser that since the SECN wasn't going to broadcast the game on TV - it's being streamed on SECN+, and those broadcasts are typically handled by the home team's own production crews - the USC production team decided to have the game at 1 pm. She stated that an early time was preferable to her, but that she wasn't asked. Ole Miss got into Columbia last night, so they were already there and had all access they needed for walk-throughs, warm-ups, etc.....

The Gamecocks take the 22-16 lead after the 1st period of play. Zia Cooke started red hot, shooting 5-9 for 12 pts in the 1st Qtr.....

The 2nd Period only saw a total of 15 points scored by both teams, but South Carolina scored 11 of those, and leads Ole Miss 33-20 at the half. Zia Cooke started hot in the 1st Qtr., but cooled off quick in the 2nd shooting only 1-7. She still leads the game with 14 pts, but her cold shooting hurt the team's overall offensive production.

South Carolina also has not rebounded well in this game thus far - they only have 18 boards at the half, and that may be decent for most other teams but it's not often at all when the Gamecocks fail to have 20+ rebounds by the half....

Gamecocks do a better job rebounding in the 3rd quarter - 14 boards, almost as many as the 18 they collected in the entire 1st half - and extend their lead to 49-31 after three periods of basketball.

The #5/6 South Carolina Gamecocks pull away in the 4th quarter to defeat the Mississippi Rebels 68-43 to improve to 19-3, and 14-1. The Rebels fall to 9-10, 3-10.

Zia Cooke led the Gamecocks with 17 points. Senior Lele Grissett continued her strong play off the bench with 12 pts, 5 rebounds, a block and a steal. Victaria Saxton added 10 pts, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals, Brea Beal added 8 pts, 9 boards, and 2 blocks, and Laeticia Amihere chipped in 8 pts and 3 rebounds....

I have always pivoted and gone to watch Dawn's squad play when Frank's teams have hit their predictable dips.

It sucks not to be able to go to the games this year.

I hear you Nerf.  Sometime in the last year my streaming service dropped ESPN+ or vice versa, and I really don't want to pay for yet another service.  SEC network, or ESPN...I'm there.  Otherwise, I'm dependent upon the outstanding efforts of Conway.
