TODAY'S GAME

The #1 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks plays their final game in the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic in Sioux Falls, SD as they take on 20th-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs today at 3:00 PM. The Gamecocks survived another tightly contested game for the second straight season against South Dakota, winning 81-71 in the opening game of the tournament.

This will be the final tournament game for USC, as the 4th expected contestant Oklahoma had to drop out of the draw due to Covid-19 complications, leaving just 3 teams. As a result, Gonzaga - who was scheduled to play the Sooners yesterday, got a Saturday bye. This game was scheduled to be played tomorrow on Monday, and USC was slated to face Oklahoma today, but with their disappointment this game was moved up to today. Tomorrow, the Gamecocks will head back home to Columbia while Gonzaga will close out their tournament with their final game against South Dakota.

Gamecocks lead 38-34 at the half. A lower-scoring 2nd Period, after the stronger opening period. Aliyah Boston having another slow start in the game, once again with 2 fouls: she only has 4 pts and 1 rebound in 9 minutes of action, after only playing 8 minutes in yesterday's first half against South Dakota. Destanni Henderson also has 0 pts thus far on only 1 shot attempt, after tying Cooke for the team lead with 19 pts in yesterday's game. So its good I guess that we're still leading in the game....

Gamecocks lead 58-52 after 3 periods. Henderson roared back after being blanked in points in the 1st half, and scores 12 3rd-period points. Boston scored 4 more pts herself and has 8, but has not rebounded much. Gonzaga has fouled much more than us, and we'd have a bigger lead if we would shoot better at the line. We're shooting under 60% there thus far....

 
Gamecocks improve to 3-0 on the season with a tough 79-72 victory over the #20th-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs (0-1). Destanni Henderson - after going scoreless in the 1st half in foul trouble - shoots 6-10 after halftime, with 10-13 at the FT line, and leads the team with 23 pts. Zia Cooke adds 16 pts with 4 rebounds and 4 assists, Bria Beal has 12 pts and 7 boards, and Aliyah Boston contributes 10 pts and 5 rebounds.

The Gamecocks return home to host a top-25 ranked NC State Wolfpack team Thursday 7:00 PM....

 
Was a great game. I had to follow on live stats but it kept me glued in the 4th. Our girls started with a 6 point lead but Gonzaga came on strong and actually took a 4 pt. lead. Thankfully our D turned it up and with 2 minutes left they took the lead back for good. 

 
There is a part of me that worries the void left by Ty's departure may catch up to us against a very good opponent at some point this season.
