2020 DE returns
South Carolina offered 2020 defensive end Jacolbe Cowan while he was visiting in March. Earlier this month, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound prospect was back on campus for a 7-on-7 tournament with his teammates from Providence Day School in Charlotte, N.C.
Cowan, who also visited last fall for the Georgia game, spoke with Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Lance Thompson for about 10 minutes during his stop in Columbia this month.
“The main discussion was about me staying motivated and continuing to respect the process,” Cowan said. “Coach Muschamp made it clear that I am always welcome at USC and that they would love for me to be a part of what they have going on.”
Several Power 5 programs have also offered, including Georgia, Florida State, Louisville, Notre Dame and Penn State.
No plans have been finalized for a return to South Carolina, but he will “definitely” be back. North Carolina hosted him last weekend for its annual showcase camp.
Gamecocks make the cut
Three-star cornerback Jonathan Gipson, a 6-1, 183-pound prospect from Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Ga., announced his top 7 on Tuesday afternoon.
Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, Indiana, Oregon State, South Carolina and Tennessee were included on the list.
Gipson, who’s taken multiple visits to Columbia, is ranked as the No. 49 overall prospect from the state of Georgia in the Class of 2018.
