Top of 1st for Holy Cross Crusaders:

After a strike out looking and a groundout, the Crusaders get a single, but leave him stranded as the next batter grounds out to complete the side.

Bottom 1st:

Allen grounds out, Campbell walks and then steals 2B, Milone walked, then Bowen HOMERS to left center, to clear the bases!!! Eyster walks, then Clarke reaches on a fielder's choice, Eyster out at 2B, 2 outs. Then Wimmer is hit by a pitch.....

Man i just sat down to see what was going on. already 6-0 good guys, still in the 1st inning.

5-0 Gamecocks, bottom 1st:

George Callil singles and advances to 2B on error, and Beaver scores!

I may have to slow down my updating roll, if it's gonna be like this.....

Gamecocks bat around in the first inning. They certainly look good, through one inning, lol. Lead-off batter Allen steps up for his 2nd at-bat, and draws a walk. and Campbell grounds out to 2B for the final out of the inning......

6-0 Gamecocks, top 2nd inning

Top 3rd, the Crusaders get another hit off of Mlodzinski - a double - and he advances to 3B off of a wild pitch from Carmen, but leave the runner stranded off of a fly-out and 2 ground-outs....

Holy Cross brought in a reliever to start the 2nd inning, and he gave up the solo shot to Eyster, but since has shut things down for the Gamecock bats. But the damage has been done already.....

Bottom 4th, and score still 7-0 Gamecocks. Holy Cross goes to their 2nd reliever, which is a good thing: the 1st bullpen guy - McOsker - brought control to the game with 3 Ks in 2.0 innings, and only allowing 1 run on Eyster's solo dinger, and 2 hits total...

The 2 Holy Cross relief pitchers have combined for 4.0 innings, 6 Ks, and only 1 run off of Eyster's homer. Still 7-0 Gamecocks through 5 innings....

Carmen Mlodzinski has now pitched 6.0 innings of 5-hit shutout baseball, with 3 Ks, 0 BBs, 1 WP. He's up to 70 total pitches. His day may be soon done with it being the opening day Game 1, but Carmen's pitched a hell of a game!

7-0 Yardcocks, bottom 6th inning

7-0 Gamecocks, bottom 6th:

7 walks and 4 errors have done Holy Cross in today. The 4th pitcher for the Crusaders is scuffling, after the 1-out 4th error (by the SS) puts Campbell on base, then 2 stolen bases from Noah gets him to 3B, now the bases are loaded with back-to-back walks to Milone and Bowen. Still only 1 out....

With bases loaded and 1 out, Eyster is walked to force in the 8th run for the Gamecocks!! 8-0 now. Clarke tries his luck with a 1-0 line-out to 2B for the 2nd out - maybe should've let this guy throw some first: he's not finding the zone at all.

Wimmer up next - bases still loaded - he hits a 2 RBI single that drives in Bowen and Heinrich!!! Beaver grounds out to end the side, but 3 more runs score for South Carolina!!

10-0 Yardcocks, top 7th inning

10-0 Gamecocks, top 8th inning:

Still 10-0, nothing doing in the bottom 7th for the Gamecocks. Graham Sawyer comes in for Mlodzinski - Carmen pitched a hell of a game: 7.0 innings, 6 hits, no runs, 3 Ks, 1 BB, 1 WP, 87 total pitches. He'll get the decision to open his 2020 season.

Graham takes the mound, toes the rubber. He's ready to go - he's firing 95+ heat in there again and again and again! When his side is done, he's retired the Crusaders in order 3 up, 3 down. No hits, no runs, 3 batters, 3 strikeouts!

10-0 Yardcocks bottom 8th innings

Trey Tujetsch finishes off the 9th inning with a strikeout for the final out, after getting 2 fly-outs and walking one.

The Opening Game of the 2020 South Carolina Baseball season is in the books, as the Gamecocks defeat the Holy Cross Crusaders 10-0 behind solid pitching from Carmen Mlodzinski (1-0), and a powerful 1st inning that saw the Yardcocks plate 6 runs, which included Brian Bowen's first hit as a Gamecock, a 3-RBI HOME RUN!!!! The Crusaders struggled in the opening game, surrendering 8 free passes to first base, and committing 4 errors.

Tomorrow's Game 2 will kick off at 2 PM with the Gamecocks' Brett Kerry (So. RHP) pitching against the Crusaders' Luke Dawson (Jr. LHP)....
