2020 RB visits; Clemson game visitors

November 20, 2017

South Carolina has offered several prospects from McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Ga.), including 2020 running back Jordon Simmons, who was in Columbia on Saturday for the Wofford game.

“The visit went well. We got to talk to some of the players and sit down with coach [bobby Bentley] and talk, and he just showed us around,” Simmons said.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound sophomore was joined by several classmates, including two who also have an offer from the Gamecocks: defensive tackle Jamil Burroughs and wide receiver Javon Baker.

“[bentley] just introduced me to all the running backs,” Simmons said. “He just showed a lot of interest and that he was interested in me. We just talked and he just said that he wanted to get me down there more.”

South Carolina’s running backs combined for 28 carries for 182 yards and a score in the 31-10 win against Wofford.

“It was good. … [bentley] was just telling me about their offense and showing me that their playbook would fit me, if I was to come there,” Simmons said.

The Gamecocks coaches worked with him earlier this summer during camp. Saturday was his first trip to Columbia for a game.

“The game was good,” Simmons said. “The atmosphere was amazing. It was something that I would probably like to play there one day.”

Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Notre Dame have also hosted him for a visit this season. He’ll return to Auburn on Saturday for the Iron Bowl.

In six games this season, Simmons has rushed 32 times for 257 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also has totaled 128 kick return yards and caught a 2-point conversion in his team’s Georgia 7A state playoff win against Lowndes on Friday.
