The 2020 Women's Soccer season is underway.
Last season, the Gamecocks were picked to finish 2nd in the conference behind the Texas A&M Aggies. They would complete the conference schedule undefeated at 7-0-3, but fail to win the regular season title on points, and enter the SEC Tournament as the #3 Seed. But they would go on to win the SEC Tournament for the 2nd time in program history, defeating the #1 Seed Arkansas Razorbacks 1-0 in the Championship match, and ride the momentum to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals for the 3rd time in 4 seasons.
This season, seven starters return, and the Gamecocks were picked to finish 2nd again, this time behind Arkansas. Coming into yesterday (Friday October 16th), the 15th-ranked Gamecocks were the top SEC East Division team in the COVID-19-shortened season of just conference opponents, at 3-1-0 (3-1-0), and the 3rd-ranked Razorbacks the top SEC West Division team at 4-0-0 (4-0-0). The Gamecocks traveled to Fayetteville to take on the Razorbacks in a critical regular-season contest.
The Gamecocks won 2-1!!
