South Carolina 5 Citadel 3 bottom 4th inning:

The Citadel jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom 1st off of a single, a double, and a RBI single off of Josiah Sightler, then a double play that scored the second RBI.

The Gamecocks responded in the top of the 3rd inning after the Bulldogs went to their bullpen - we got nothing much off of their starting pitcher - with a lead-off walk to Joe Satterfield. Brennan Milone doubles, George Callil strikes out, Brady Allen is walked loading the bases, Braylen Wimmer strikes out for the 2nd out, then Wesley Clarke reaches 1st on a error from the Citadel SS and a run scores. Sightler then helps his own cause by hitting a 2-out 2 RBI double scoring both Allen and Milone!! That's the game for that Citadel pitcher, as they go to the bullpen.

That pitcher throws a wild pitch that advances everyone, and Clarke scores! that's it for the Gamecocks, but they now lead 4-2!

Magdiel Cotto comes in to pitch for Sightler, and Josiah moves to DH. Cotto gives up a lead-off triple, and then the RBI ground out for the 1st out pulls the Citadel to within 1 run 4-3.

Gamecocks 4-3 top 4th inning:

Against a new Bulldogs pitcher, Satterfield singles and Milone is walked. Callil sac bunts both over to 3B and 2B, 1 out. Allen flies out scoring Satterfield. Wimmer strikes out but the Gamecocks lead now 5-3.

NOW we get to USC 5-3 bottom 4th inning:

The Citadel hits a 2-out double, and Will Sanders comes in for Cotto. Another single scores a run for the Bulldogs before Sanders retires the side.

5-4 USC, top 5th inning......

5-4 Gamecocks, top 5th inning:

A new pitcher for the Citadel. Clarke strikes out. Sightler flies out. Andrew Eyster walks. David Mendham strikes out to end the Gamecock side.

5-4 Gamecocks, bottom 5th.....

5-4 Gamecocks, bottom 5th inning:

Sanders takes the mound. The lead-off Citadel batter singles. The next batter flies out, and the Citadel baserunner is caught out trying to steal by Clarke at 2B. Sanders gets the next batter to ground out for the final out.

5-4 Gamecocks, top 6th....

5-4 Yardcocks, top 6th inning:

Once again a pitching change for the Citadel. Boy, when they said we'd be facing "Staff", they weren't kidding! The 5th Bulldog pitcher tonight.

Satterfield grounds out.

Milone hits into the shift, and stumbles over his bat running to 1st. He's out.

The Citadel has been puff-ball pitching our staff, and the slow-motion heat has gotten our bats tied into pretzels. We only have 3 hits on the game.

Callil flies out for the final out.

5-4 Yardcocks, bottom 6th inning....

5-4 Gamecocks, bottom 6th inning:

Wesley Sweatt comes in for Sanders. It's his first appearance this season - he sat out 2020 after Tommy John surgery. Good to have you back, Wesley!

Sweatt throwing 93 mph heat, but he gives up the lead-off single. The Gamecocks have yet to record their first strikeout, while The Citadel already has 9 Ks from Gamecock bats thus far tonight.

CRAP - the next batter hits the 2 RBI home run. The Citadel leads 6-5....

The Citadel is out-hitting the Gamecocks 10-3 thus far....

The next batter fouls out to Mendham.

The next batter flies out to right field.

The next batter singles, and Jackson Phipps comes in for Sweatt. We don't need to be running through our bullpen just before our Texas series.

Phipps gets the final out on a strike out. The Citadel is hyped to be the team to break our winning streak to start the season - they were struggling coming into this game, but they are world beaters tonight, and we're the team scuffling.....

6-5 Citadel, top 7th inning.....

6-5 Citadel, top 7th inning:

Once again, a new Citadel pitcher. Guess we should expect a new Citadel hurler for each and every inning we'll play against them tonight. But they can't ALL be untouchable pitchers - seems like eventually, they'd send one out that our bats could beat up on, but those guys are still in the bullpen. We've faced SEVEN (7) Citadel pitchers thus far, and have no answers for any of them...

Allen is walked. Wimmer strikes out. Clarke flies out.

Sightler is walked.

Eyster battles for a long at-bat, but grounds out for the final out. The Citadel pitcher is mouthing off at the Gamecocks dugout, as he should. We've not presented much of ourselves tonight, and the effectiveness of the Mercer pitching is quite suspect at this point. The power of our bats to start this season has dwindled down to about not much.

6-5 Citadel, bottom 7th inning....

6-5 Citadel bottom 7th inning:

Phipps retakes the mound.

The lead-off Citadel batter singles. We're in real trouble.

The next batter is thrown out at 1st - ends up a sac liner, and a Citadel man on 2B 1 out.

Andrew Peters comes in for Phipps.

Peters strikes out the 1st batter he faces. He walks the next batter, and its Bulldogs on 2B and 1B, 2 outs.

Peters strikes out the next batter for the final out! A huge out for the Gamecocks. Our bats need to find some hits.

6-5 Citadel top 8th.....

6-5 Citadel top 8th inning:

Strangely enough, there's no new Citadel pitcher. The shithead retakes the mound.

Colin Burgess hits for Mendham. He grounds out to 1st.

Satterfield doubles!! THE GAMECOCKS GET A HIT! THE GAMECOCKS GET A BASEBALL HIT IN A BASEBALL GAME!!!!!!

And NOW they go to the bullpen. The shithead pitcher leaves the mound, talking more trash to the Gamecocks bullpen. He might as well - they've owned us tonight, and we haven't shown much desire to push back. Maybe now we will....

Milone walks, and it's Gamecocks on 2B and 1B with 1 out. A new Citadel pitcher again! He's their NINTH pitcher of the game. This is their CWS. But their pitchers keep pitching our batters out, no matter how deep into their bullpen they go.

Connor Cino pinch-hits for Callil. Callil is just not a good hitter this season.

Cino reaches on fielder's choice. Milone is out at 2B, and there are Gamecocks on the corners 3B and 1B for Brady Allen, with 2 outs.

Brady HITS UP THE MIDDLE!! Satterfield scores and we're now tied 6-6! Satterfield was that Citadel pitcher shithead's responsibility, and now his earned run. Screw you, shithead!!!

Lets try it this way and see if it works now:

11-6 Gamecocks, top 8th inning:

Milone walks, and it's Gamecocks on 2B and 1B with 1 out. A new Citadel pitcher again! He's their NINTH pitcher of the game. This is their CWS. But their pitchers keep pitching our batters out, no matter how deep into their bullpen they go.

Connor Cino pinch-hits for Callil. Callil is just not a good hitter this season.

Brady HITS UP THE MIDDLE!! Satterfield scores and we're now tied 6-6! Satterfield was that Citadel pitcher shithead's responsibility, and now his earned run. Screw you, shithead!!!

Braylen Wimmer steps in. Noah Myers pinch-runs for Cino at 2B. Wimmer DOUBLES ALONG LEFT LINE!! MYERS SCORES!

Perhaps we've gotten to the bottom of their bullpen. But this pitcher is actually throwing pitches with some pace. Not a bunch of junk like the previous other pitchers.

Clarke is intentionally walked. Still 2 outs.

SIGHTLER SINGLES!!! 2 RBIs!!! It's now 9-6 Gamecocks!!!

EYSTER DOUBLES!!! IT'S A DEEP FLY TO RIGHT AND THE CITADEL OUTFIELDER DROPS THE BALL!! It's rules a double!! 11-6 Gamecocks now!!

5 hits in the inning thus far...

Burgess has an epic at-bat, but pops up for thefinal out of the inning.  But major damage is done and the Gamecocks lead 11-6.

11-6 Gamecocks, bottom 8th inning.....

Started listening to the game on the radio right before the bats got hot late.

Our games so far have been great to listen to on the radio because there's always some action in an inning for either us or the other team and we're winning.

The ESPN+ pay wall was up last night for this game on WatchESPN but it hasn't been for some of the other previous games.

Great crowd in the stands for both teams last night as well.

We're going to get everyone's best shot from here on out and I expect the remaining OOC games to be pretty tough for us like this one was.
