Gamecocks take the 2-0 lead early, on a hit by pitch to Brady Allen leading off the bottom 1st for South Carolina, then a 2-out 2-RBI home-run from Wesley Clarke....

2-0 Gamecocks top 2nd......

2-0 Gamecocks bottom 2nd inning:

Andrew Eyster leads off. He hits to 3rd, the 3B throws wide of 1st, and Eyster advances to 2nd on the error.

Jeff Heinrich sac bunts Eyster to 3rd, for the 1st out.

Colin Burgess singles up the middle to score Eyster, unearned.

3-0 Gamecocks top 3rd....

3-0 Gamecocks bottom 3rd inning:

Gamecocks get something started in this inning: a new Bulldog pitcher comes in for the bottom 3rd. He gets Braylen Wimmer to strike out. Then Josiah Sightler doubles. Clarke is walked to put two Gamecocks on 2B and 1B, 1 out.

David Mendham is also walked, and the bases are loaded with 1 out.

Eyster strikes out swinging. He was looking for the fence.

Heinrich clears the bases with a 3-RBI double to right!! It's 6-0 Gamecocks now!!

Burgess grounds out for the final out, but the Gamecocks is in firm control.

6-0 Gamecocks, top 4th....

6-0 Gamecocks bottom 4th inning:

George Callil to lead off. A new Citadel pitcher will face him. Callil singles! It's just our night when George gets a hit!

Callil steals 2nd! Allen is walked and we have more something starting up in the 4th!

Wimmer bunts back to the pitcher and the bases are juiced with 0 outs!! Wimmer is wicked fast and he has the bunt single down pat these days - it's the 3rd or 4th one he's hit safely in the past week or so.

Sightler sac flies out to center, scoring Callil. 7-0 Gamecocks. Allen advances to 3rd and they are on the corners with 1 out.

Wimmer steals 2nd - Gamecocks on 3B and 2B, 1 out.

Clarke is walked and the bases are loaded again, 1 out. This was how things were during the 11-0 run.

The Citadel brings in a new pitcher from the bullpen.....

Mendham pisses in the punch bowl, and hits into a double play to end the fun. But we tack on another run to our total.

7-0 Gamecocks, top 5th....

7-0 Yardcocks, top 5th inning:

Sanders steps on the mound. The lead-off batter for the Citadel hits a solo homer. Crap! I hadn't mentioned Sanders efforts tonight, because THAT home-run was the very first hit for the Bulldogs starting their 5th inning, and I didn't want to spoil anything. But no matter now: Will Sanders has pitched a hell of a game tonight. Last week, he only threw for one inning, then it was pitching by committee from the bullpen for each inning, for some strange reason.

Tonight, they let Sanders actually pitch out there. So he gives up the first run of the game on a solo shot.

The next batter strikes out swinging.

The next batter strikes out swinging.

The next batter strikes out swinging for the final out!! Sanders strikes out the side after the solo homer, to show he's not impressed, and is still king of the mound!

Sanders has pitched 5 innings thus far, allowing 1 single run on 1 single hit, 10 strikeouts, 1 walk, 1 wild pitch.

7-1 Yardcocks bottom 5th.....

8-1 South Carolina, top 7th inning:

The Gamecocks scored their 8th run in the bottom 5th after the Citadel scored their lone run in the top 5th - Burgess hit a 2-out single, then advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Callil singles - HE HITS HIS SECOND HIT OF THE GAME!! - to deep left field, scoring Burgess. Could this be an offensive awakening for George??

Now, to the top 7th inning. Sanders only pitched those 5 innings, then was relieved by Daniel Lloyd, who gives up the 2nd hit of the game by the Bulldogs, but otherwise has been rolling along.

Lloyd reclaims the pitcher's mound in the top 7th: he gets the lead-off Citadel batter to strike out. The next batter strikes out. The final batter flies out to left.

8-1 South Carolina, bottom 7th......

Nice win.  In years past it seems we struggle with the Citadel at times.  Glad we have UF at home rather than on the road.  We had 2 tough road series in a row with Texas and Vandy.

The strong spring winds were a negative factor at both the Texas and Vandy ball parks as far as our hitting went.

I also heard the attendance restrictions at Founders Park were going to be opened up a bit going forward.

Folks need to shed some cabin fever from the last year and get to the games if it's possible for them to do so.
