The sweep of former 5th-ranked Florida Gators, and the 5-game win streak overall beginning with the 3rd game win versus Vanderbilt the previous weekend, helped propel the Gamecocks back up into the higher rankings of the polls, after the 6-game losing slide caused them to fall rapidly.

The Gamecocks are ranked 14th in D1Baseball, from previously being ranked 25th. They jumped from 20th to 11th in Baseball America. They are 16th in the NCBWA, after being ranked 24th last week. In Collegiate Baseball the Yardcocks rocketed all the way to 8th nationally, after being out of the top 25 entirely last week. For the USA/Today Coaches Poll, they are ranked 15th, up from 23rd last week. And finally, the Gamecocks leap to 16th in the Perfect Game Top 25, after being unranked in last week's poll.

As for Gardner-Webb, they are 7-9 on the season thus far, and are hitting around .230 as a team, and have only one player on roster who's hitting north of .300. Their pitching staff has an ERA north of 5.00. But we're 1-2 versus the Bulldogs all-time, with the two losses coming in our most recent two games with them, so we need to not take them lightly and put a stop to that losing streak to them effective immediately.....

The starting pitcher for G-W hadn't pitched much before tonight, but coming into this game, lead-off batters were hitting .800 against him. That's nice!

Brady Allen leads off with a single. Wimmer bunt-singles - he's wicked fast, maybe - dare I say - even Tanner English fast??? OK, I said it.....

With men on 2B and 1B, Josiah Sightler ground-rule doubles as it bounces over the wall. Allen scores, and it's 1-0 already with 0 outs. This game may be a long one tonight.....

Wes Clarke is back to doing Wes Clarke things!! A 3-RBI Home Run and it's now 4-0, still 0 outs.....

:cockybaseball: :cockybaseball: :cockybaseball: :cockybaseball: :cockybaseball:

Andrew Eyster is hit by a pitch!  David Mendham doubles, and it's Gamecocks on 3B and 2B STILL 0 outs.

Gardner-Webb seen enough - they are going to the bullpen. The starter was too out-matched - he never recorded an out. 4 runs have scored already, and 2 more men are in scoring position that are his responsibility.....

Jeff Heinrich lines out, Joe Satterfield flies out, and George Callil grounds out to end the fun, but we take the lead.

4-0 Gamecocks, top 2nd....

4-0 Gamecocks top 2nd inning:

Mahoney gives up a lead-off single, but the next batter hits into the pitcher's best friend: the double-play! The next batter singles, but then the next batter strikes out to end the inning for the Runnin' Bulldogs.

bottom 2nd inning:

Top of the lineup back up again for the Gamecocks, as they batted through the lineup in the 1st inning.

Allen strikes out. Wimmer singles the old-fashioned way. Sightler singles.

Clarke flies out deep. Eyster flies out for the final out.

4-0 Gamecocks top 3rd....

4-0 Gamecocks bottom 3rd inning:

Bases loaded, with 1 out. Top of the lineup up next. Allen hits a sacrifice fly-out scoring a run. Wimmer grounds out to the pitcher, and the inning is done. COuld've come away with more there, but we tack on another run to our lead.

5-0 Gamecocks, top 4th inning......

5-0 Gamecocks, top 4th inning:

Mahoney takes the mound. A lead-off triple, and a 1-out double scores the run for Gardner-Webb. Mahoney settles back down and gets the next 2 outs on strikeouts to retire the side, but the Runnin' Bulldogs are on the scoreboard...

5-1 Gamecocks bottom 4th inning:

Sightler, Clarke, and Eyster are up next.

A new pitcher for G-W.

Sightler fouls out to 1st. Clarke is walked - an intentional unintentional.

Eyster doubles and there's Gamecocks on 3B and 2B, with 1 out.

Mendham flies out to center for the 2nd out, but it drives in Clarke and another Gamecocks run. Heinrich flies out for the final out.

6-1 Gamecocks top 5th......

6-1 Gamecocks top 5th inning:

Jackson Phipps comes in for Mahoney - Jack pitched solidly: 4.0 innings with 5 hit baseball, only 1 run scored (earned), with 6 Ks, 0 walks, and 1 wild pitch.

The lead-off Gardner-Webb batter strikes out. The next batter strikes out. The next batter grounds out for a 1-2-3 inning for Jackson.

6-1 bottom 5th inning:

Satterfield grounds out. GEORGE CALLIL DOES WHAT!?? CALLIL HITS A HOME RUN!!! I don't believe it!! They should let him round the bases TWICE for that!!!

I amazed. I'm truly stunned.

But the baseball game continues on. They did not stop it - did not commence with ceremonial functions and honorary City Key awardings.

Still just 1 out. Allen flies out. Wimmer strikes out. They apparently were stunned, too......

7-1 Gamecocks, top 6th inning....

7-1 Gamecocks, top 6th inning:

Phipps still in there. The lead-off batter for Gardner-Webb singles. The next batter strikes out, but not before Phipps throws a wild pitch at him, advancing the base-runner to 2nd.

The next batter also strikes out. The next batter singles deep to right field, scoring the Runnin' Bulldog from 2nd. The next batter strikes out - Phipps strikes out the side, around a single, a wild pitch, and a RBI-single.

7-2 Gamecocks, bottom 6th inning:

Another new pitcher for Gardner-Webb. They are bringing them out new for each inning.

Sightler lines out. Clarke strikes out. Eyster singles, but Mendham flies out to end the inning.

7-2 Gamecocks, top 7th inning.....

7-2 Gamecocks, top 7th inning:

Parker Coyne comes in for Phipps. Haven't seen Parker too much this season.

Coyne walks the lead-off batter. The next batter flies out, but not before a wild pitch to him advances the man on 1st to 2B. ANOTHER Coyne wild pitch to the next batter advances that guy to 3B, but Coyne strikes out that batter.

John Gilreath comes in for Parker. He gets the next batter to fly out for the final out.

7-2 Gamecocks, bottom 7th inning:

New pitcher for G-W. Brandon Fields pinch-hits for Satterfield. He hits a grounder to 3rd - reaches 1st safe on the throwing error from the G-W 3B-man.

Callil flies out. ALLEN HITS A 2-RBI HOME RUN TO LEFT CENTER!!!

Wimmer grounds out for the final out, but we add on more insurance.

9-2 Gamecocks top 8th......

9-2 Gamecocks, top 8th inning:

Fields take right field. Gilreath still in the game.

He gets a fly out and a ground out. But the next Runnin' Bulldog homers a solo shot to left. The next batter grounds out for the final out.

9-3 Gamecocks, bottom 8th inning:

New pitcher for Gardner-Webb. They must have 30 pitchers.

Jalen Vasquez pinch-hits for Sightler. He flies out. Clarke pops out to Short. Connor Cino pinch-hits for Eyster.

ANOTHER new pitcher for Gardner-Webb. Boy.....

Cino hits a grounder to the pitcher, who throws him out at 1st.

9-3 Gamecocks, top 9th inning.......

9-3 Gamecocks top 9th.....

Fields takes over at RF for Satterfield.
Jalen Vasquez takes over at 2B for Wimmer.
Noah Myers takes over at LF for Sightler.
Brennan Milone takes over at 3B for Heinrich.
Michael Robinson takes over at SS for Callil.

CJ Weins takes over on the mound for Gilreath.

The lead-off batter singles.
The next batter hits into a fielder's choice, the man is out at 2B, man on 1B and 1 out.
The next batter reaches on the fielding error by Robinson at Short.
The next batter walks to load the bases, and Weins' night is done.

Daniel Lloyd comes in....

9-3 Gamecocks, top 9th inning. Bases loaded with Runnin' Bulldogs, 1 out.

The first batter Lloyd faces reaches on a fielder's choice out at 2B, but one run scores. There are now 2 outs, with G-W men on the corners.

Lloyd strikes out the next batter for the final out! Game over!!

9-4 Gamecocks!

Also understand that Clemson played UGA tonight. UGA threw 8 pitchers at Clemson and shut them out 2-0......

I wish we had more endurance out of our Game 3/OOC starting pitchers, but it's better than being hampered by a gimpy bullpen and we're getting the wins.

Another great win.
