COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The University of South Carolina baseball team heads to Athens, Ga., for a three-game set at Georgia. Friday's game begins at 6 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday's games starting at 2 and 1 p.m., respectively. All three games will be streamed on SEC Network Plus. Every Gamecock contest will be on the Gamecock Radio Network with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call. Carolina is coming off a 9-4 win over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday night as Wes Clarke, George Callil and Brady Allen all homered and Jack Mahoney struck out six in four innings of work.

SCOUTING GEORGIA
The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-0 win over Clemson on Tuesday night. Eight pitchers combined for the five-hit shutout while Riley King and Connor Tate had two hits apiece. Tate leads Georgia with a .362 batting average while Corey Collins has a team-best 16 RBI. On the mound, Jaden Woods is 1-0 with a 4.21 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 25.2 innings pitched. Georgia is 2-4 in the SEC with wins over Tennessee and Texas A&M.

SERIES VS. GEORGIA
Carolina leads the all-time series with Georgia, 65-63, but the Bulldogs have won the last six meetings. Georgia swept the Gamecocks in 2019 in Columbia. Andrew Eyster drove in a pair of runs in the 8-7 loss on Saturday in 2019.
 
GAMECOCKS SWEEP GATORS FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2006
Carolina swept Florida for the first time since 2006 as the Gamecocks moved to 4-2 in SEC play. Friday's game went 5:31 and 14 innings, capped off by a Colin Burgess RBI double for a 9-8 win. Brannon Jordan allowed one unearned run in seven innings and Wes Clarke belted a three-run home run in a 4-1 win on Saturday and the Gamecocks hit five home runs on Sunday in an 8-5 win. The sweep was the first for the Gamecocks in SEC play since Carolina won three games against LSU in 2018.

BURGESS THE HERO ON FRIDAY NIGHT
Colin Burgess hit an opposite-field double in the bottom of the 14th inning in a 9-8 win over Florida on March 26. The Gamecocks were trailing 8-7 going into the bottom of the 14th but got a game-tying home run from Andrew Eyster. Jeff Heinrich followed with a single to set up Burgess' heroics. Burgess was named the SEC Newcomer of the Week, catching all 41 innings in four games while hitting .444 with a double and a home run.

Not much doing thus far. A real pitcher's duel, but both teams have hits thus far.

Jeff Heinrich leads off - he's hit by a pitch. Colin Burgess singles, and there's Gamecocks on 2B and 1B with 0 outs.

George Callil lays down the bunt to move the men to 3B and 2B, and there's 1 out. We're in business!

Brady Allen fouls out to 1st. Crap! Braylen Wimmer grounds out, and a strong opportunity is wasted....

bottom 3rd inning:

Thomas Farr strikes the first batter out. The next batter grounds out. The next batter singles, but Farr gets the next batter to fly out for the final out.

0-0 Top 4th......

 
0-0 top 4th inning:

Josiah Sightler is walked. A new pitcher for UGA comes in....

Wes Clarke steps to the plate. A wild pitch to Clarke allows Sightler to move up to 2B. Clarke is then hit by a pitch. Another good start to an inning: lets do something here with it!!

Andrew Eyster grounds out, but both runners advance to 3B and 2B with 1 out for the 2nd straight inning.

DAVID MENDHAM HOMERS TO LEFT FIELD!! A 3-RBI SHOT!!

Heinrich grounds out and Burgess grounds out to end the inning, but the Gamecocks draw first blood!!

3-0 Gamecocks, bottom 4th inning....

Farr gets the first 2 outs on a strike out and a pop-up to shortstop, but allows a solo home run to the next batter, and UGA is on a scoreboard.

The next batter flies out to end the inning.

3-1 Gamecocks, top 5th.....

 
3-1 Gamecocks top 5th inning:

Callil grounds out but we're at the top of the order now. Allen is walked. Wimmer strikes out.

Sightler singles to right, and they are on 2B and 1B with 2 outs. But Clarke strikes out to end the threat for the Gamecocks.

Farr is still in there. The lead-off batter doubles. Next batter pops up and the next strikes out, but not before a wild pitch moves the UGA man on 2B to 3B. 2 outs.

Julian Bosnic comes in for Thomas Farr.....

The first batter he faces singles, scoring the man on 3rd. It's 3-2 Gamecocks now....

The next batter walks. But Bosnic strikes out the final batter for the 3rd out.

3-2 Gamecocks top 7th....

 
3-2 Gamecocks bottom 7th inning:

Bosnic takes the mound: the lead-off UGA batter doubles.

Andrew Peters comes in for Bosnic. The first batter he faces grounds out back to him, a sacrifice. The man moves to 3rd with 1 out.

The next batter is walked. The next batter is safe at 1st on the fielder's choice: they look the man on 3rd back to 3rd so he doesn't try for home, but are not able to get either base-runner at 2nd or 1st. Bases loaded now, 1 out. Not good....

The next batter hits a 2-RBI single. 4-3 UGA now.....

The next batter flies out for the 2nd out.

The next batter grounds out to end the inning for UGA.

4-3 Georgia, top 8th inning.....

 
5-3 UGA, top 9th inning:

Burgess strikes out.

Callil singles.

Allen reaches 1st on the fielder's choice to 2nd on the grounder to 3B, but the UGA 3B throws wide to 2B for the error. Everyone safe on 2B and 1B, 1 out.

Wimmer reaches on another fielder's choice - this time a successful out at 2B, and there are Gamecocks on the corners with 2 outs.

A new pitcher comes in for UGA.

Sightler pops up and out to 3B for the final out.

Georgia wins Game 1 5-3......
