BATON ROUGE, LA -- The South Carolina Gamecocks look to rebound in Game 2 of the best-of-three series against Louisiana State Friday after falling in the opening game 5-1 Thursday night. The Saturday game's first pitch is set for 7:00 PM (8:00 PM ET), and will be streamed online on SEC Network Plus. Every Gamecock contest will be on the Gamecock Radio Network with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call.

PROBABLE PITCHING ROTATION
Friday
South Carolina Brannon Jordan (Sr. RHP) 4-2, 3.02 ERA, 24 BB, 66 SO
LSU AJ Labas (R-Jr., RHP) 2-0, 3.40 ERA, 8 BB, 46 SO

In Thursday night's Game 1, LSU's Landon Marceaux went seven innings, allowing three hits with no runs while striking out 12 and walking one. He was opposed by Thomas Farr, who allowed four hits and two runs with three strikeouts and three walks in five innings of work.

LSU's Gavin Dugas started the scoring with a two-run home run in the first. The Gamecocks pitching kept the Tigers at bay until the seventh when Dylan Crews brought in a run with a double and Cade Doughty's sacrifice fly scored a run. LSU added a pair in the eighth with a Cade Beloso two-run home run. Carolina scored a run in the ninth on a double play ball with the bases loaded.

David Mendham, Brady Allen and Burgess had the three hits on the night. Mendham tripled in the seventh but was out at home trying to score on a fielder's choice. In the sixth, Andrew Eyster hit a ball up the middle that looked like it was going to score a pair but Jordan Thompson made a great play at shortstop to get the third out of the inning.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Colin Burgess threw a runner out trying to steal, his 11th of the season.
  • David Mendham now has 11 extra-base hits and had the Gamecocks' third triple of the year.
  • The game was televised on ESPNU.
  • The Gamecocks played at Alex Box Stadium tonight for the first time since 2017.

The Gamecocks rally to win Game 2 4-2 and tie up the best-of-three series at one game apiece after trailing 2-0 for most of the game. LSU scored their runs with a run each in the 1st and 2nd innings, then were shutdown the rest of the way. The Gamecocks put the first two men on in the top 7th inning with back-to-back singles to open the inning. Pinch-hitter Noah Myers sacrificed both men over to 3B and 2B with 1 out.

Then Braylen Wimmer doubled to score both runners, and the score was tied 2-2. George Callil was then hit by a pitch, and Brady Allen doubles down the left field line to drive in both Wimmer from 2B and Callil from 1st to give us the final score. Brett Kerry came in for the bottom 7th, and retired the Tigers in order to close out the win.

The batters of the game were Braylen Wimmer and Brady Allen. Wimmer went 2 for 3 with the 2-RBI double to tie the game, and Allen 1 for 4 also with a 2-RBI double to seal the victory.

The starter Brannon Jordan pitched 4.0 innings allowing 2 runs on just 3 hits, with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks. The walks are still killing Jordan's outings, as he threw 95 pitches in just 4.0 innings. Reliever Andrew Peters (3-1) got the win with 2.0 innings of work on 1-hit shut-out baseball, with 2 Ks and 1 walk. Brett Kerry earned his 3rd save of the season pitching the final inning with a strikeout....

Straight up, I thought we didn't have enough innings in this one to get the win and turned the game off to do yard work.

It seems like opposing coaches have figured what we struggle with and give us that kind of pitcher in our Game 1's with them.

Glad we got the two wins, but we really shouldn't be struggling that much with anything at the plate at this point in the season.
