SCOUTING LSU
The Tigers took 2-of-3 games at Kentucky this past weekend, winning the first two games by scores of 15-2 and 8-6. Cade Beloso and Hayden Travinski each drove in four runs in the series opener while Landon Marceaux had eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched to earn the victory. Freshman Dylan Crews leads LSU with a .350 batting average to go along with seven doubles and nine home runs. Marceaux has 55 strikeouts in 47.2 innings pitched.

SERIES VS. LSU
LSU holds a 39-29-1 series advantage on the Gamecocks heading into this week's contests. The last two meetings between the two teams have been in Hoover during the SEC Tournament with LSU coming away with a 6-4, 12-inning win in 2018 and an 8-6 win in the opening round in 2019. The last series between the two teams was in 2018 in Columbia, with the Gamecocks sweeping the three games.

ALLEN DELIVERS IN MISSOURI SERIES
Brady Allen was 6-for-11 with six runs scored, two doubles, one home run and six RBI in a series win over Missouri on April 9-11. His three-run home run on Saturday got the Gamecocks on the board in the fifth inning. Allen then drove in four runs in Sunday's 13-4 win over the Tigers. On the season, Allen leads the team with a .317 batting average and has nine home runs and 28 RBI.

LLOYD, KERRY CLUTCH OUT OF THE PEN
Juniors Daniel Lloyd and Brett Kerry each had strong outings out of the bullpen in the series win over Missouri. On Saturday, Lloyd pitched four scoreless innings, allowing four hits with no walks and two strikeouts to earn the save in the 11-1 victory. Then on Sunday, Kerry struck out eight in four innings of relief, allowing six hits and two runs with no walks. Carolina's bullpen has nine wins and 185 strikeouts in 133 innings pitched this season.

Wow, someone was up early to post this.  Thanks Conway!

Yeah haha, I forgot this was a Thursday thru Saturday series, and didn't want today's game to not have a game thread for it.

This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise however - I'm reading there are some pretty bad weather events happening for this weekend down from TX to FL, so the early start to the series may save it form being rained out.....

2-0 LSU top 3rd inning:

Gamecocks have yet to test the Tiger pitcher. Colin Burgess singles to right field - that's the first hit of the game for the Gamecocks.

Brennan Milone flies out. A wild pitch to Braylen Wimmer moves Burgess to 2B. Wimmer fouls out to right. Brady Allen strikes out.

2-0 LSU bottom 3rd......

2-0 LSU top 4th inning:

Farr has settled down since the 1st inning, but the LSU pitcher is dominating our hitters: we have 1 hit, and 7 strikeouts thus far.

2-0 LSU bottom 4th inning......

2-0 LSU top 5th inning:

Thomas Farr has 80 pitches through 4.0 innings. He threw a ton in the early innings, but settled down since, but he's not getting much offensive support.

Burgess pops up to shortstop. Milone strikes out. Wimmer grounds out......

2-0 bottom 5th inning:

Farr gives up a lead-off walk that makes his way to 3rd, but is eventually stranded there. Farr now has 96 pitches in 5.0 innings...

2-0 LSU top 6th.......

2-0 LSU top 6th inning:

The LSU pitcher has 65 pitches through 5.0 innings. He's been cruising along. Top of the lineup for the Gamecocks up next. Allen singles for the Gamecocks' 2nd hit of the game.

George Callil strikes out. Josiah Sightler is hit by a pitch! We have them on 2B and 1B with 1 out.

A wild pitch to Wes Clarke moves both Gamecocks up to 3B and 2B.

Clarke strikes out, and is thrown out at 1st as the pitch gets away from the catcher. Crap.

Eyster grounds out to end the threat....

2-0 LSU bottom 6th.......

2-0 LSU bottom 6th inning:

Farr's day is done. Daniel Lloyd comes in.

Farr didn't do too badly - he just started out a bit rough. But ultimately he pitched 5.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. LSU got 3 of their 4 hits and both of their runs in the opening inning. Normally a solid outing, but he hasn't gotten any runs from his team to back him up. He's in line for the loss.

Lloyd gives up a single to the lead-off Tiger batter. But the next batter grounds into a double-play to clear the bases, and the third batter strikes out to end the inning.

2-0 LSU top 7th.......

2-0 LSU top 7th inning:

David Mendham leads off with a triple! A great start to the inning!

Burgess strikes out. Damn, lets drive Mendham in with at least a fly out, guys.

Crap. Milone reaches 1st on a fielder's choice off of a grounder to shortstop. Mendham is out at home.

Wimmer strikes out. Huge bummer.

Only good thing is the LSU pitcher has now thrown 107 pitches: maybe that's it for him and the Tiger bullpen will be more forgiving, but it wouldn't surprise me if this guy throws 150 pitches in a complete game outing.....

2-0 LSU bottom 7th......

Jackson Phipps comes in for the bottom 8th, and gives up a solo homer to the lead-off batter.

5-0 LSU top 9th inning:

Clarke grounds to 3rd, the 3B is off on his throw and Clarke is safe on the error.

Eyster is walked. Two men on and 0 outs.

Mendham is hit by pitch. Won't get my hopes up because the bottom of the order is up next, but bases loaded 0 outs....

Burgess grounds into a double play. A run scores but damn. That's a rally-killer......

Milone strikes out.

LSU takes Game 1 over the Gamecocks 5-1. We came back last weekend. We'll need to do it again this weekend......

If the Gamecocks continue their trend, they should win the next two. Here’s hoping that trend continues.

We're not good with Game 1's, but that seems to be more about our own hitting than Farr's pitching.

Still, he's the one that has to take the losses.
