COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The University of South Carolina baseball team wraps up the three-game series with Clemson on Tuesday, May 11 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson, S.C. The game is a make up for the rainout from Feb. 26. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday's game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra. Every Gamecock contest will be on the Gamecock Radio Network with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call. Carolina is coming off winning 1-of-3 games from Mississippi State this past weekend. The Gamecocks won the Sunday contest, 4-3, in 11 innings as David Mendham's RBI double gave Carolina the walk-off win.

PROBABLE PITCHING ROTATION
Tuesday
South Carolina  CJ Weins (Jr. RHP) 0-0, 6.75 ERA, 4 BB, 3 SO
Clemson TBA

SCOUTING CLEMSON
The Tigers were swept at Georgia Tech this past weekend. Clemson is led offensively by Caden Grice, who has 12 home runs and 44 RBI to go along with his .329 batting average. James Parker is hitting .313 with seven home runs. On the mound, closer Geoffrey Gilbert has three saves and 47 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched.

SERIES VS. CLEMSON
Clemson leads the overall series, 181-143-2, but the Gamecocks have already clinched a series win over the Tigers with wins in February. Clemson has a 100-44 all-time record in games in Clemson.

EYSTER SEND EVERYONE HOME -- TWICE -- CLEMSON SERIES REWIND
Andrew Eyster had walk-off hits in back-to-back wins over Clemson on Feb. 27-28. The senior from Ocala, Fla., doubled in the 11th inning in a 3-2 win on Saturday in Greenville. He then had a walk-off single in the ninth inning in the 8-7 win on Sunday in Columbia. Eyster is hitting .455 with five doubles, a triple, a home run and six RBI in eight games played against the Tigers.

RPI UPDATE
The Gamecocks come in at No. 12 in the latest RPI with the No. 7 strength of schedule. Carolina has played 12 games against top-10 RPI teams and still have three games against No. 8 Tennessee on the schedule. Carolina has eight wins against top-25 teams in the RPI and is 18-2 against teams that are 51 and above. The NCAA will announce 20 sites that will be in the running as hosts sites for the NCAA Tournament later this week.

SEC STANDINGS UPDATE
Carolina currently is in fourth in the SEC East Division and seventh overall heading into this weekend's series at Kentucky. The Gamecocks' 12-12 record is two games back of No. 6 Ole Miss while Carolina is a half-game ahead of Alabama and a full game ahead of both Georgia and Kentucky for seventh place.

MENDHAM WALKS OFF BULLDOGS
David Mendham's RBI double in the bottom of the 11th inning scored Jeff Heinrich and gave Carolina a 4-3 win over Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon (May 9). Mendham, who also hit a 2-run home run in the second inning, belted the double to the gap in left field that scored Heinrich, who singled with one out in the frame. Carolina now has four walk-off wins, three coming at Founders Park.

KERRY TAMES BULLDOGS AGAIN
Brett Kerry pitched six innings against Mississippi State on May 9, allowing just four hits and a run with six strikeouts, keeping Carolina in a game that it eventually won, 4-3, in 11 innings. Kerry also pitched against Mississippi State in 2019 in a 10-8 win. He pitched 6.1 innings, allowing five hits with two runs and four strikeouts to earn the win.

Let's get the win.  BTW, do we lead the taters in any sport in series wins?  "Clemson leads the overall series, 181-143-2".

Once upon a time we led in MBB, but then went through a long stretch where I think they passed us. I'm not sure now. I know we lead in WBB.

Tonight's game is sorta like playing with house money. We already won the season series, but it would be great to sweep them.

Game score is 0-0 heading to the bottom 3rd inning. Nothing doing so far, but we're starting to get to their pitcher, who's at 60+ pitches through 3.0 innings, while Weins only has 28 pitches thrown through 2.0 innings.....

Wow, so this game couldn't crack either the SEC or ACC network, and is relegated to a "+" network.

0-0 top 5th inning...

Weins lasted 2.2 innings, and Daniel Lloyd came in to relieve him. He hadn't pitched a lot innings thus far this season, so I guess we're going by committee tonight.

0-0 top 5th inning:

After Colin Burgess flied out for the first out, Wes Clarke smacks a solo home run to right center for the first score of the game!! The Gamecocks lead 1-0.

A new pitcher comes in for the Tigers......

Bottom 5th, Lloyd falls apart. Walks and then hits the bottom 2 batters in the Clemson lineup - who are struggling to hit above .200 - to get to the top of the lineup with the .300+ hitters.

They make him pay for it, and the next batter sac-bunts back to Lloyd who throws off-target to 1B. Two runs score on the error - both unearned. Man on 2B, still 0 outs.

The next Clemson batter singles in the 3rd run - that was the very first hit of the game for Clemson - in the bottom 5th inning. They have 3 runs and 1 hit. We have 5 hits, and 1 run.

The next batter hits into a double play, but it's too late in the inning, and damage is already done.

3-1 Clemson, top 6th....

4-1 Clemson top 8th inning:

Jeff Heinrich hits a 1-out solo home run to left to pull the Gamecocks closer. The next Gamecock batter - Brennan Milone - doubles to left. A new Clemson pitcher comes in.

4-2 Clemson......

I was thinking we still had a small lead in MBB but a losing record to them in WBB although we've won something like 12-13 in a row.  I could be wrong though.

You're right about the WBB series - Clemson leads there, but not by much: we have a 32-33 all-time series record against Clemson, LOL. We should tie that up if we play them next season.

In MBB, we're actually 91-79 all-time against them. So I was backwards on the basketball programs' records. It won't be long before we have winning series against them for both sports, unless they run and hide......

I see us passing them in WBB but they've been eroding the margin in MBB for a couple of decades now.  I remember when we had about a 25-30 game lead in MBB.
