The Gamecocks fall 5-4 to the Tennessee Vols in the final game of the series and regular season. The Gamecocks fell behind 5-1 in the top 4th inning when the Volunteers scored 4 runs, and creeped to within 1 run in the 8th with 3 straight hits - two singles from Brady Allen and Andrew Eyster, then a RBI double from Wes Clarke - to chase the Tenn. starter. Josiah Sightler then singled in another run, and David Mendham drove in the 3rd run with a ground-out to 3B with Clarke making a break for home. The Gamecocks had 4 of their total 8 hits in that inning alone.

In the bottom 9th, the Gamecocks had their chances with a lead-off double from Jeff Heinrich to put him in scoring position for the tying run, but Joe Satterfield, Allen, and Eyster followed that with game-ending strike outs.

Now to get ready for the SEC Tournament beginning on Wednesday.....

We play Bama in the single elimination First Round on Tuesday at 2:00 pm instead of Wednesday.  Probably another bullpen game.

The winners meets (guess who?) the Vols on Wednesday in the double elimination second round.

We should do okay, but we really could have used a win yesterday.
