1:30 P.M.   |  COLUMBIA, SC.  |   FOUNDERS PARK (2,100)

GAME DAY INFO | WATCH: SECN+ | LISTEN: 107.5 The Game | Live Stats

GREENVILLE, SCAndrew Eyster doubled home Brady Allen in the bottom of the 11th as the University of South Carolina baseball team walked off Clemson in a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon (Feb. 27) at Fluor Field in Greenville. The Gamecocks improved their record to 5-0 heading into tomorrow's game at Founders Park.

The Gamecocks put up a run in the first on Wes Clarke's RBI single up the middle that scored Brady Allen. The two teams then traded runs in the fourth. Clemson Jared Parker brought in Dylan Brewer with a single up the middle, while Jeff Heinrich's RBI single to center scored Brennan Milone, who doubled to start the frame.

The game remained that way until the top of the ninth, when James Parker led off the frame with a solo home run over the Green Monster in left.

Carolina got out of a jam in the 11th as Will Sanders came in with runners on first and second with no one out. Sanders induced a 6-4-3 double play and then got a groundout to end the Clemson 11th.

Allen opened the 11th with a double to the gap in right. He scored on the one-out double from Eyster.

Sanders picked up the win in relief. Thomas Farr struck out seven in the six-inning start. Julian Bosnic had three strikeouts while Brett Kerry struck out six in three innings of work.

Allen, David Mendham and Heinrich had three hits apiece while Eyster had two hits.

Brannon Jordan scuffled a bit in his last start last weekend against Dayton: 4 Ks in 4 innings but also 4 walks. He only gave up 2 hits but those walks resulted in 4 runs, 3 earned. He'll need to find his location better today. But he's a senior, and he's proven himself to be a dominant pitcher from last season. He's already equaled the number of home runs he's allowed (1), total number of runs allowed (4), and almost half of the walks he allowed in 21.0 innings of baseball he pitched last season. Hopefully he has a strong rebound outing today against the Tigers. I really don't want to have to figure out how to win this series in May.....

Top 1st:

Well.....

Jordan still hasn't figured it out quite yet. He gets a strike out and a ground out for the first 2 outs, then walks the next batter on 4 pitches, and then gives up the RBI double that drives the walked guy in. He then ends it with a ground-out for the final out, but Clemson leads to open up the game.

1-0 Clemson, bottom 1st.....

Ty Olenchuk is a freshman so hopefully the occasion may overwhelm him. The Tigers have made much ado about Olenchuk growing up a Gamecock fan but choosing to go to Clemson instead. Hopefully we show him that he chose 2nd best today.......

1-0 Clemson, bottom 1st:

Brady Allen grounds out, then Brennan Milone hits a grounder to 3B, who throws off-target to 1B and Milone is safe. Wes Clarke then strikes out, and after Milone advances to 2B on a balk, David Mendham grounds out to end the side.

1-0 Clemson, top 2nd......

1-0 Clemson, top 2nd inning:

Jordan has a much better inning with two strike outs and a pop-up out, to retire the side in order. Andrew Eyster, Josiah Sightler, and Colin Burgess up next....

1-0 Clemson, bottom 2nd......

1-0 Clemson bottom 2nd inning:

Eyster and Sightler both strike out. Burgess finally gets the Gamecocks on board with a single to right center. Braylen Wimmer follows that up with a single to center. George Callil steps up with a runner in scoring position, but he strikes out to end the threat. We at least made the freshman hurler work some.....

1-0 Clemson, top 3rd....

1-0 Clemson, top 3rd inning:

A walk to the lead-off batter and then a double has Jordan in trouble. He gets a pop-up and a strikeout for the first 2 outs, then intentionally walks Parker, the guy who drove in the lone Clemson run. Bases loaded, 2 outs....

The strategy works, as Jordan gets the next batter - who's not hitting well thus far - to strike out to end the inning and the threat.

1-0 Clemson, bottom 3rd.....

1-0 Tigers, bottom 3rd inning:

Allen grounds out and Milone strikes out.

Wes Clarke steps up and HOMERS!!! The Gamecocks are on the scoreboard, and the game is tied!

Mendham flies out but its a new ball game now....

1-1 Tie Game, top 4th inning......

1-1 Tie Game, top 4th:

Jordan gives up a lead-off single, but gets the next batter to strikeout. Jordan is one of those pitchers that get to a 0-2 count on every batter, in his sleep, but has no clue how to get that 3rd strike. So most all of the at-bats start out 0-2 counts, and end up as full counts and marathon at-bats. So Jordan has 60+ pitches thrown into the 4th inning, and he has 3 walks already. But because he can get those first 2 strikes easy, he also gets a lot of strikeouts. He's not a long start, to say the least....

Jordan gets the next batter to another full count, and strikes him out for the 2nd out. Aaaand he gets the NEXT Tiger batter to a full count, and gets him striking out looking. So Jordan strikes out the side after the lead-off single. He now has 77 pitches through 4 innings.

1-1 Tie Game, bottom 4th......

1-1, bottom 4th inning:

Eyster and Sightler both line out, and Burgess strikes out. Olenchuk now at 58 pitches. He's still got a couple innings in him, at least.....

1-1, top 5th inning.....

1-1 Tie Game, top 5th inning:

Jordan takes the mound. This time he starts 3-0 instead of 0-2, still works it to a full count, before walking the lead-off batter. It's Jordan's 4th walk.

And that's it for Brannon. He goes 4.0 innings with 3 hits, 4 walks, and 8 strikeouts, allowing 1 run which was earned.

Jack Mahoney comes in out of the Pen.....he inherits a man on 1B and 0 outs.....he gets the 1st out on a pop-up. The next batter singles, and there are Tigers on the corners 3B and 1B, with 1 out.

The next batter strikes out for the 2nd out. During the next at-bat, the man on 1B must have felt he was being neglected, and he steals 2B.

The next batter doubles driving in both men on 3B and 2B, and it's 3-1 Clemson....

Mahoney gets the next batter to ground out to end the inning, but damage done.

3-1 Clemson, bottom 5th.....

3-1 Clemson bottom 5th:

Wimmer opens the bottom 5th by rudely greeting Olenchuk's 1st pitch to him - a HOME RUN to center field! 3-2 now for Clemson.

Callil grounds out.

Clemson goes to their bullpen.

Allen hits a 1-out single.

Milone singles, and there are Gamecocks on 2B and 1B, with 1 out, for Wes Clarke. I think this Clemson pitcher is their closer - he hasn't given up hits or runs in 4 innings, with 6 Ks and 0 walks. But we're hitting him now....

BOOM!!! :baseball-on-fire-smiley-emoticsmall:

Wes Clarke HOMERS AGAIN!! This time a three (3) RBI smash to center field! The Gamecocks claim the lead 5-3, with still only 1 out!!!

Mendham grounds out. Eyster hits a single, but Sightler flies out to end the inning for the Gamecocks. But 4 runs scored on

2 home runs and three singles - 5 hits overall!

5-3 Gamecocks, top 6th inning.......

5-3 South Carolina, top 6th inning:

A Clemson batter reaches 1B safely on a throwing error by Milone, between a ground out and a foul out. Mahoney's day is done, and he's in line for the win. Jackson Phipps comes in with 2 outs and a man on 1B......

Phipps gets the final out of the inning on a strikeout.

5-3 Gamecocks, bottom 6th.......

5-3 Gamecocks, top 7th inning:

Travis Luensmann comes in for Phipps. I think this is his first appearance of the season???

Luensmann walks the first batter.

Luensmann has pitched earlier this season, for one inning with all 0s except for one strikeout.

a fielder's choice gets the first baserunner out at 2B for the 1st out.

Next batter singles and its 2B and 1B with 1 out.

Daniel Lloyd comes in for Luensmann.....

Lloyd walks the first batter he faces to load the bases with 1 out. Here we go...

Next batter singles in a run 5-4 USC.

Next batter singles in two runs. 6-5 Clemson.

Andrew Peters comes in for Lloyd.

Next batter bunts in a run, reaches 1B on the fielder's choice. 7-5 Clemson.

Peters gets the final out of a disastrous inning that began with a lead-off walk.

7-5 Clemson, bottom 7th.....

7-5 Clemson, bottom 7th inning:

New pitcher for Clemson. Allen flies out. Milone reaches on throwing error from 3B.

Clarke singles.

Mendham singles scoring Milone and Clarke is at 2B!! 7-6 Clemson now....

Eyster singles up the middle and Clarke scores!!! It's all tied up again 7-7!! Gamecocks on 2B and 1B, and still just one out!!

:cockybaseball: :cockybaseball: :cockybaseball: :cockybaseball: :cockybaseball:

Noah Myers spoils the fun by hitting into a double play to end the inning, but we get back into the game!

7-7 Tie Game, top 8th.......
