This is the catch-all update thread for the WBB 2021 recruiting class, and all news associated with it. The Gamecock WBB 2021 class consists of 4 prospects that was ranked as the overall #1 class in the 2021 cycle per ESPN. It includes overall #2 5-star PG Raven Johnson, overall #3 5-star G Saniya Rivers, overall #4 5-star F Sania Feagin, and overall #14 5-star G Aubryanna "Bree" Hall.

All four prospects have signed with South Carolina, and are scheduled to enroll in the summer, but for right now they are still part of the incoming recruiting class, and therefore all news for them will go here. Once they enroll of course, they are Gamecock student-athletes and any news then would go in the WBB Hoops forum for the program, team, and active players.

Most recently, that Gamecock class's high regard was supported by all four being selected to the 2021 McDonald's All-American list. The actual game was not scheduled for 2021 due to covid-19 concerns, but the class of four were the most for the 2021 cycle of any program, and is the most for one class in the program's history: Dawn Staley has coached 13 McD All-American players at South Carolina - 10 of whom she recruited into the program as freshmen.

The 2014 class that featured A'ja Wilson was the first multiple player class to participate, but only three of the four 5-star players (Wilson, Jatari White, Bianca Cuevas-Moore) were selected. The 2019 class that included Aliyah Boston, Zia Cooke, Brea Beal, and Laeticia Amihere only had Boston, Cooke, and Beal participate because Amihere was Canadian. Others recruited by the Staley staff included Kelsey Bone (2009), Alaina Coates (2013), Destanni Henderson (2018), and Eniya Russell (2020). Others not recruited but eventually played at South Carolina were Kaela Davis (2013), Te'a Cooper (2015), and Destiny Littleton (2017).

So this was a great class. And next season, all six (6) current former McD AA's - Henderson, Boston, Cooke, Beal, Russell, and Littleton - will be eligible to return for 2021-22 and will have the four newcomers added to give Coach Staley a roster of ten (10) McD All-Americans, a first for both the USC program and for Staley. Not to mention a roster consisting of twelve (12) former 5-star talent, with Saxton and Amihere.

The prep accolades keep coming in for the overall #1 ranked South Carolina 2021 incoming class. Consisting of all four (4) being McDonald's All Americans, now two were finalists for the 2021 Jersey Mike's Naismith high school trophy. ESPN Hoopgurlz overall #2 rated 5-star PG Raven Johnson and overall #3 rated 5-star G Sania Rivers made the five-player finalist group.

The winner was announced March 11th by the Atlanta Tip-off Club, which presents the award. Raven Johnson was selected as the 2021 Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Trophy Girls Player of the Year. Raven joins A'ja Wilson as the only Naismith girl's Player of the Year to play at South Carolina.

State of South Carolina recruiting prospects:

2022
HG #8 Talaysia Cooper 6-0 Guard
HG #13 Ashlyn Watkins 6-3 PF

2023
HG #3 Malaysia Fulwiley 5-6 PG
ASGR #17 Mary Ashley Groot 6-3 F
??? Riley Stack 6-4 F

2024
HG Top25 Joyce Edwards 6-2 W/F

All of the above are reported to have offers from Dawn except Mary Ashley Groot who plays with Ashlyn Watkins on Asia Dozier's Cardinal Newman team. She is a Gamecock born and bred. Her grandmother (former chief judge of the US 4th District Court of Appeals) is an alumnus and the Law School Courtroom is named after her. Her mom is a NYC attorney and also an alum. Mary Ashley is rumored to have an open walkon offer because she doesn't need an athletic scholly. Rumor only and can never be confirmed. She does reportedly have a scholly offer from Miami.

All three 2023 prospects are listed as invitees to tryout for spots on the US U-16 national team! (Dawn's influence?)

Please post info on other SC state prospects whether or not they have SCar or P-5 interest

2021 South Carolina commitment Saniya Rivers has been named the 2020-2021 Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

The three-time North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year has a new accolade to add to her résumé: 2020-21 Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Saniya Rivers, the No. 3-ranked overall prospect in the Class of 2021, was surprised by Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne -- whom she called "the GOAT herself" -- with the award presentation.

Less than two hours after getting the award, which happened during what she thought was a routine team banquet, Rivers told ESPN she was still shocked and honored. But it was a culmination of years of hard work.

"Just pushing through adversity. It shows that it was all for something, not all for nothing," Rivers told ESPN. "Of course, getting it for my state, just representing my state feels amazing."

So that's the 2021 Gatorade National POTY (Rivers) and the 2021 Naismith National POTY (Johnson) all getting ready to join the program in another week or so. Pretty nice....
